Summer job with levergun

Post by 86er »

One of our neighbors asked the boys to shoot the rabbits out of his back acre. One day there were 27 of them out there for hours. They are eating his roses and plants and pooping all over the place. He offered a nickle a piece or a day of swimming in his pool. The boys went three days and got one or two each day with their Henry's with open sights. However, the cottontails tend to hang around 50-70 yards out. We added a small 4X scope to the Henry since the sights block out the entire target at 50 yards. This improved the success greatly and yesterday Brandon got 3 rabbits "at work". The bullets are Federal 36gr 22 LR that have been converted to Wide Nose - Nasty Nose with the Paco Accurizer. These smack the rabbits very hard and put large holes that tend to keep them down. So far since adding the scope and using these bullets the boys have been able to connect out to 70 yards.

Those any good eating this time of the year? I know down here you have the possibility of parasites more than in the cooler months.

The boys are pretty good negotiators. They took a day of swimming per rabbit on the condition that Bob supply the soft drinks and sunscreen. Justin commented, "That's worth more than a nickle, Dad".
