Coming home from work today, the caliper on the drivers side seized up on "ole Yeller, my 89 YJ. That baby was smokin' when I backed her into the garage and its only a 1 point 8 mile drive. Just the things I like to hear coming up on a 4 day weekend......bummer........................---------------6

I can't believe I only got 24 years on these calipers and rotors. Junk I tell 'ya...junk :D

Sorry to hear about your caliper six. At least its a pretty easy fix. I'll pray for no stripped or snapped bolts bud!

Its true Jeepnik. Its funny how I enjoy working on jeeps way more than anything else.

My wife and I have a standard saying when we are getting rained on or something breaks or stops working. We just smile and say "It's Part of the Charm".
If we see a jeep on side of the road we always stop and see if they need help or a ride. Have given a ride or two and loaned some tools. Jeeps are family.

Yea! Ain't that somethin'!

Its so common anymore that I just raise my two fingers from the steering wheel. Where my son lives, in Colorado, they sell these fake fingers that you mount on the steering wheel as every other vehicle is a Jeep. (not really, I made that up :D )

My first set of wheels was a 1979 CJ7. I loved that thing!
It had a 258 Straight six with a three speed that could pull a house down!
I got in a bad accident and it was never the same.

Here's my '08 Sahara. Love this one too!

Jeepnik, I've always liked those Scramblers -still remember the ads on TV: "Scramble to work and Scramble to school".

Been working on a Jeep too. I'm thinking trail/hunting/teach the boys to drive a stick rig.

Image

I liked the idea of the Wagoneer for a little more room with three boys, but it's taken so long to finish it that one of them grew up and joined the Navy. I'm telling myself I'll hunt with it this fall.

Could have done a CJ or YJ

Here's a picture of my Dad's Jeep his very first automobile he ever owned. This he a bought in Tokyo from the Army while he was assigned to Army General Headquarter Tokyo in early 1946. He later had a hardtop custom made for him in Tokyo by a Japanese metal worker, it made the winters there much more comfortable. I believe he sold this one to a Japanese national at quite a profit and bought another Jeep. It may have been his second Jeep that he had the hardtop made for. I have the picture of the hardtop Jeep somewhere, and I'll post it as soon as I can locate it and scan it. He finally sold it to buy a Henry-J Kaiser in 1951 after he got married and had his first child my older sis.

Coop,
Nice wagoneer! My wife drove cherokee's for years. She only stopped after they quit the solid axle. Her white one was her favorite.
Ji,
The old flatties are just a blast to drive and wheel. Looks like your dad's was a GPW (Ford) as it has a nine slot grille

The first vehicle I ever bought brand new was a 1980 CJ-5 with the Pontiac 2.5l 4 banger and a 4 speed. I could get about 27mpg in it if I drove like I had good sense. Traded it in on a new F-150 Supercab in '85 and have regretted it ever since.

Thanks for the info. Did the Willys have seven grill slots?

Now that's why I was thinking of the 2.5 liter Jeep TJ with a 5 speed manual. The later 2.5s which replaced the GM 2.5 were basically the 4.0 six with two cylinders lopped off so a very stout engine, and with the 5 speed and fuel injection I was thinking it could easily get 25 MPGs .

EDIT: Just looked through both the Jeep forums and the Wrangler forums, and real world mileage for the 2.5 4 banger not one said they got over 20 mpg in their 5 speed 2.5 TJs. I just drove 100 miles (mostly freeway) on Sunday in my 3.3 V-6 Nissan truck and was averaging 21 mpg. I'm trying to find an excuse to trade in my truck for a 4 banger TJ but I can't find one except that the TJ is a Jeep.

They did. Ford Motor Co. was so concerned with their reputation that every part of the GPW had the big cursive "F" stamped on it so it wouldn't be confused with Willy's Overland. Even the bolt heads had an "F". It's way harder to restore a GPW obviously.

oh my, i had an identical one, same year same color; got it in san antonio while in the army. used it in idaho, then brought it with me to alaska; sold it to get something warmer, but it was a good friend for well over 100,000 miles. saw it again years later, and the young couple still loved it.

wouldnt mind having similar again.
