Unknown Revolver Frame

It was in my late neighbor's box of gun stuff his son brought over when he passed away, some years ago.
Curiosity has gotten the best of me. Can anyone identify it? No numbers or stamps anywhere on it.

It looks to be a rough grip-frame casting, in a "Rugerish" style..
Most of what appears to be excess material is part of the casting sprue, and may serve as locating or anchor points for the initial machining operations.. The big lump(s) of metal ahead of the grip-frame "ears" would be cut away, leaving a rather conventional-looking grip-frame...
Could be a prototype or mould 'proof'.
Where did the deceased man live?

He was born in and lived in the house cross the street, here in Santa Cruz, CA since 1950 or so, but he spent a lot of time in Alaskan wilderness, photographing.

What Buck said is spot on.
That is what the quality dept uses to rough lay out.
IE to see if there is enough material to proceed with initial cut.

I'm sorry Guys but that looks like a finished product to Me. I have a couple frames I will dig out tomorrow and compare.

One of the first things about this frame yhat I noticed; the trigger guard is more squared off than Ruger single actions...

No top strap, would that indicate a reproduction black powder maybe?

It's an unfinished gripframe, and not a cylinder frame, hence no markings/serial number.

Have you put a magnet to it, to determine if it's ferrous or not ?

The squared-bottom TG has me leaning towards a Hawes or somesuch other arcane SA revolver maker.

Yep, that sure is it!
Interesting it's 5 bucks on Gunbroker's Numrich offering; yet it's $53 on Numrich site. Maybe I'll use it for a yard decoration on the fence out by the BBQ, next to the lucky horseshoe or something.

I had a U.S Arms Abilene sixgun in 357 with 6.5" barrel. The bluing was so deep and rich looking you could almost bathe in it. I bought mine within the 1st couple years they were out. And b4 Mossberg acquired them. I sold it and there are times I regret doing so.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

It dawned on me a while ago that this had to be for some iteration of the "Abeline" type revolver.. Good to see it has been identified as such...

I remember seeing barrels full of rough grip frames up at Gun Parts back in the early 90's, could have been those same ones.
Slow is just slow.
