USFA question
Misfired and posted my 94 question twice so let me quickly edit this to reflect another question...........
Is USFA out of the SAA business for good?

Re: USFA question
I was told by a USFA rep (while standing five feet away from their president demonstrating the new Zipper) at the SHOT Show in January that the traditional line is gone for two years while they get the Zipper going, after which they "plan" to start up the SAs again.
Other sources say the SA equipment is all gone from the older USFA plant.
Since I'd be astounded to see the Zipper succeed, I'm doubting USFA will be around much longer at all & I don't expect them to return to SA production.

Re: USFA question
Not a USFA shill, I see.
Re: USFA question
Hi Edwardy,
Good to see you again.
I've worked with about five of their guns, own a Rodeo, but I've never understood the way he runs that place.

Re: USFA question
The only wildcard here is that they were selling everything they made, and at quite a premium. Was it profitable? I don't know. THAT is the question. If they needed new machinery and new (cheaper) leases, well then perhaps we'll see them back.DPris wrote:I was told by a USFA rep (while standing five feet away from their president demonstrating the new Zipper) at the SHOT Show in January that the traditional line is gone for two years while they get the Zipper going, after which they "plan" to start up the SAs again.

The very well run STI couldn't make a business case for their wonderful Texican SAA, so perhaps it's a matter of not making a profit at even the high prices the USFA products commanded.

I thought I already told you, my sister wasn't pregnant, after all. We broke up, though.

I hope it doesn't put a stigma on the poor thing! After all, any girl not good enough for her own kin...edwardyoung wrote:I thought I already told you, my sister wasn't pregnant, after all. We broke up, though.DPris wrote:Give my regards to the missus. And the gal on the side.

Re: USFA question
The Zip is quite popular at the moment. Backordered until Ragnarok as far as I can tell.
I'm even on the "lay awake" list.
It may very well be a passing fad, but in MY contacts with TPTB they are going full speed ahead in making/developing these things...
(FWIW, "progress is being made" on the .22/.17 WMR variant....)

Probably not...Mescalero wrote:

The "Zip" is a new "plastic gun" that looks nothing like a "real" gun but an awful lot like a "video game" gun.
It uses any 10/22 magazine and is natively suppressible.

Re: USFA question
Edwardy,
Geeze, I DO get behind at times, don't I? Sorry, I'll try to keep up better.
Old,
Everytime I see a forum post on somebody getting a Zipper, it's followed by "It don't work."
There may be some novelty value attached, but I couldn't hold it comfortably at SHOT & even if they CAN get them to work the thing offers no appeal to me whatsoever.
I'll stick with my comfortable rimfire handguns that actually something to hang onto & balance like real guns. And that I can holster!

I sincerely hope it works, if for nor other reason than it does NOT "look like" a gun.
Still, even though I prefer Leverguns, I'm not a complete luddite and am willing to give the "weird' a chance... especially if (unlike the FN PS90) I can afford one...)

Re: USFA question
I can do weird, but only if it offers some advantage or improvement.
There is nothing about that Zipper that offers enough advantage over my conventional Smiths & Rugers to get beyond the oogly & awkward.
A 25-round mag (which I see reports from unhappy Zipper Campers saying don't function in the gun) can't overcome the...the...thing.
I want a grip, balance, and a holster to carry in. I don't shoot rimfires recreationally at a range, mine are outdoor guns mostly for trail use.
Hope yours works.
Supposedly USFA has developed some sort of Fixit Kit, but we'll see.

Re: USFA question
Note that there are people who buy Seecamp pistols who whine when they won't work with non-Silvertip ammo.
All I have to say is; RTFM.
My guess is that many of the nay-sayers didn't Read the eFfing Manual and are therefore "disappointed".
Contrairly, I DO believe that any .22 released should natively function "flawlessly" with 90% of OEM .22 ammo, but that's not how things work in the real world...

Re: USFA question
The samples USFA had for the media to shoot at range day couldn't be kept running, and that was with USFA people right there to explain & demonstrate.
If they work & people like 'em, that's fine. I'm not persuaded the novelty value will keep them going.
But, could be wrong.

I think I'd rather hit someone with my framing hammer that shoot them with something that ugly.

Re: USFA question
USFA went from quality firearms ..... to this ???? trash???? Sad, very sad. It looks like something convicts would cobble up in the work shop.
In this case I totally agree with DPris: There's nothing of interest for me with that .... thing ... at all.

Re: USFA question
Imagine, it wasn't that long ago some of us were proposing (fantasizing about) USFA building a proper US-sourced "92 or '73 'n such to augment their stellar SA line. Difficult market realities of the higher end SA world or not, the Zip certainly is looking to me like the answer to a question no one (or few) asked - and an odd direction for USFA to vector or certainly bank its future on. But who knows, maybe they'll make a bundle on the things so they can retool for nice SA's again!
