Winchesters in current production

Post by Nate C. »

You folks might already know this, but I haven't been keeping up for several years: I went to the NRA annual meeting's exhibit hall this weekend and learned that there are currently in production Winchester (US Repeating Arms, I reckon) model 94 in 38-55. They are also producing both model 92s and model 1873s in several handgun calibers.

All produced by Miroku of Japan by contract to FN (Browning) under license from Olin Corp for the use of the Winchester name.

I thought US Repeating Arms permanently closed it's doors in March of 2006.

Yeah, if US manufacturers would work to that quality, John Wayne wouldn't have to do that.

I looked at a new production model 94 30-30 at Fin,Fur,&Feather last week in Ashland Ohio. I guess I expected too much but the rifle wasn't finished even close to the Browning series that came out of Japan. that and the rebounder was enough. :( .

Having never experienced an older Winchester, I really don't mind the rebounding hammer on the two leverguns I own (94ae and Moss 464). I would like to get an older 94...when did the rebounding hammer/safety start?

USRAC was reduced to being only the factory in Conn that built Winchester-marked guns for FN by the time FN shut the plant down in '06. USRAC was not a separate company, as such.
Today Winchester is a name licensed by FN through Browning, as Griff says, for use on Winchester-branded guns from various sources, domestic & foreign.

where is their new plant located, their new model 70´s seem to be nice ( I have 2 )?

And will they change location, because of some gun laws???

There is no "Winchester" plant.
The 70 has been made in FN's South Carolina factory.
Leverguns are by Miroku in Japan.
Some shotguns are Turkish.
And so on.

Yep, things are no longer what they seem - IIRC, the Winchester Wildcat .22 boltgun's from Eastern Europe ( Russia, I think) .
