Stan James, our chief technologist, whose family has been in alaska since goldrush days, starts his kids out right: iron sights, lever guns, and bear hunting:
she used a marlin model 94 in 44 magnum, but using 44 special loads; very nice bear, for a bright and beautiful young alaskan lady!!

The old ways are alive and well, even if you have to go to Alaska to find them. Great job, girl! You, too, dad!

Excellent!
My boy just took his first hog with a 44 Mag. using cast 44 Special loads. Gets the job done right now! Elmer was right.

Quick story along these lines....
Many years ago my Uncle took my cousin Rachel with him bear hunting in the far Northwest. At the time she was 9 yrs old. As I was told, they saw a bear that my Uncle and her began stalking. As they got close they lost sight of it. A few more steps on the game trail gave them a better view. Suddenly a bear steps into the trail about 40 yards away. My cousin yells "Ahhh" and fires her cut down 444 Marlin from the hip in a hurried state of temorary panic. The bear drops in its tracks. She happend to hit it just above the eye! It was quite a big bear at just over 400 pounds. It is full mounted and was nicknamed "Teddy". That was 35 years ago and the bear is still one of her most prized possessions.
Congratulations to this young lady and her dad! Great photo and a very nice looking bear!

The young lady is due an earned "Well Done."
When kids get this kind of exposure, monsters under the bed don't stand a chance.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.
