Northwest Florida Porker

Post by 66GTO »

This 400 lb boar was shot this past week at a hunt club near Walnut Hill, Florida. The story said they had been seeing sign of this hog for years and had hunted him without success. He apparently showed himself to this deer hunter and ended up like this. He was tearing up their food plots and being a general nuisance. A tree stand would be my preferred spot if this big boy was near  .

Hobie, this was shot about six miles due south of the farm in Canoe, Alabama I told you about where I shot a hog a couple of years ago.

H*ll no!

Maybe a scoped 30-06 at three hundred yards! From across the hood of a pickup, with the engine running. And maybe a moat or two in between us.

I'm sure there's a lot of farmers happy to see that one hung up. How much of that meat would be any good?

Slow cook him for 24 hours and add about 200 gallons of hot BBQ sauce and it might be OK. My grandpa raised hogs but he always cut his boars long before they were butchered. This old hog had all of "equipment" still in place. I imagine he would taste pretty randy. No telling how many his offspring are running around those woods.

I'm going to send this pic to my BIL who lives in Atmore. He'll have to talk about it.

That is pretty cool. I've got to admit, I've never heard any of the in-laws talk about hogs down there. Darn if that wouldn't be some fun.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Hobie, it was shot on Pine Barren Creek. This article will give you a better idea where it was: http://www.northescambia.com/2013/02/hu ... d-wild-hog.

If you get any more info about this hog, post it up.

Dangerously close to me! I keep telling my wife that 444 Marlin is not a waste of money that I really need something that big around here. Made sure to show her this picture.
Alas since the water was up this year we did not get any hogs this year. Two years ago my BIL got one that was a little over two hundred and he tasted fine but was a load to carry out of the swamp and butcher.

Now that's a pig.

Back in the mid 70's I was stationed in the panhandle. I can't say pigs were even around then. Seems like these critters have expanded into darned near the entire country. And, we can't kill them as fast as they breed.
