Price For A NIB Security Six

I mentioned this one a couple months ago, and thought it was a nice used one, but......Looks like a 6" bbl.....Blue/walnut. Owner says the action has never been open, or has it been cocked or dry fired....What is that worth?

Oh, about $550-650. It does depend on whether it is an earlier grip frame or not. Might be more. All the papers, box condition, etc.

My local Dealer wants almost that for a well used one. Iaint biting. I finally got Him to come to His senses on the Argentine Highpower. I'll post pics when I get it. Should be tomorrow.

This one is 599$$....there is a very nice used one for 399$$.....I've been repeating to myself that I'm half way to the Shiloh, so, don't screw it up, dang it

Personally, if it's new unfired in the box I'd leave it for a collector.

FWIW Blaine,
I have a near NIB 4" S&W 19-5, 3-T's (Target T,H,& Stocks), Box, and all paperwork consigned at the LGS, for $699. It's been there a week, with very little interest. Everyone seems to want a plastic pocket gun right now.

I paid $335 for a 6" stainless and $375 for a 4" stainless. I missed out on a stainles 6.5" Blakhawk 357 for $400 that i still think/whine about. The Security Six is better than I could have thought. I run a "stiff" load of 2400 with a 180gr RFN Saeco and the recoil seems very mild. Which surprises me cuz the grips seem really small.

When I got mine they were about $325 new.
and a new Ruger #1 was less than $350

It sounds like a deal for a collector.
I would keep looking if I wanted a shooter.

Let's put it this way: Used, GC, Security Sixes are going for $400 +/- right now. If you buy that gun for $600, take it out and shoot it what is it worth then? Sounds like you'd be flushing $200 down the drain if you're wantin a shooter. It's not like Security Sixes are fragile, go find a used one that has been shot.

Well............... I have bought a couple of NIB (supposedly) Colt Pythons that i had great great pleasure in being the first to shoot them outside of the Colt factory ---
--- NIB guns are cool --- but to be fair , my NIB Python experience was a few years ago when it was maybe a $200 tariff. Now the same stunt would cost me much more than that -- but i have never looked at guns the way i do my retirement investments -- in most cases, its hard for the value added to match the rise in inflation anyway ---- so who cares

------- i am the weird one who would pay a hundred or so bucks more for a NIB Ruger than a well used police trade in --- because my local prices suck for such guns and i never get a "good deal" ----- but i have a lot of fun - and that is a big part of it for me

---- basically, if you think you paid a trifle bit too much, -- just wait a year or two and things will even out !

Hang tough, TTT - I KNOW you'll like the Shiloh MUCH better, especially since that one's premium-priced (IMHO).

Lemme put it this way - even though someone hot to sell one may put a premuim price on a pristine example, in reality, there's just NO major collector market out there for Security Sixes (no matter how good/nice they may be), like there is for (say) Colt SAA's.

IOW, if one's not cheap - let it steep. It's not like there'll never be another one F/S one day.

Agreed. An as-new used one will be hundreds less and just as serviceable.

Yes and I'm lovin it! I picked up an unloved S&W 15-1 last week for $225! Might have been an old cop gun. Was carried a lot with some blueing wear(no rust) target stocks worn from carry and just calling to me from the case in the LGS. Gun is nice and tight, likes all the .38 loads that all my other guns like. Tried 3 different loads,all shot well, changed the rear sight 5 clicks left. So much for load development and sighting in! Spent the next hour emptying my 3 bags of ammo and making my swingers dance. Every now and then you win one.

I recently found a supposed NIB Security-Six 6" stainless at one of my LGS. The price was $550 and the dealer wouln't move. I passed and bought a 3" Speed-Six for $340 instead, lightly used, it has become one of my favorites. Course I already owned a 4" Security.

If you take one of your S&W revolvers from the Reg Mag,mod27,28,35,19,65,66 ect.

Or one of your Colts 357 Mag,python,trooper ect you will find they all have side plates

and screws to mess up when you take them apart.

And even as robust as some of the Reg Smith's and mod 27 enerds and springs are

they are not near as strong as the over machined Sec Six design is.

As well as the before mentioned pistols one should allways have one of the best revolvers

ever made. That would be the Ruger Sec six searies.
