Hogs in DC!

Post by alnitak »

No, not the political pigs...but feral hogs. There was a big article in the Washington Post this morning about feral hogs appearing in Virginia and moving inside the beltway in a few years. If that happens, this area is really in for it, as the Wildlife and Game people have done nothing to stop the spread, and once they get here, hunting won't be an alternative in the crowded suburbs. The article also said that people were bringing truckloads of them from TENN and N. Car and releasing them in Virginia to create a feral population to hunt. Great...can't wait to see the damage done when the population increases beyond the 3000 they estimate now!

Can't imagine someone being dumb enough to actually try and start a population in a place they don't exist. Good grief.

They tried it near here and the USFS told the locals to go at, they did and the pigs are all BBQ PDQ.

People have trans-located feral pigs over here too. As if shooting doesn't get a bad enough rap already, why ask for trouble.
I don't know about over there but here trans-locating ferals is a crime.
The problem with feral pigs is that they are highly adaptable, give them water, food, and a place to hide and they will thrive.

Wild hogs can adapt to anything. A couple of years in that area would be interesting to watch.

If they can adapt to eating money they'll do great there.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
