Just thought about that the other day. Oddly enough it is an all-rubber one I put on my 'rain-gun' (Ruger 77/44 .44 Mag stainless/synthetic). It absolutely won't slip on garments (i.e. off the shoulder), snugs well shooting offhand, and is completely noise-free. Very strong as well, and of course waterproof.

It IS quite the non-looker, but then so is the Ruger 77/44 - both very black and utilitarian. Both are very practical though.

On my 'normal' gun, a cobra-shaped non-adjustable leather sling is one of my favorites, for similar reasons, minus the water-proof status. No brand indicated on the leather one and it is definitely not a 'fancy' one - it just works.

For wood-stocked hunting rifles... Montana sling in tan leather.

For wood-stocked military or target rifles... Turner NM sling in tan leather.

For synthetic stocked or "black" rifles... Turner NM sling in all-weather biothane.

I don't hunt with a sling since I prefer to use a gun. Rocks are just not my style.

Like Horsehair!
Find on super cold days(the fully leather ones at times----noisey)
The horsehair seems to have all the attributes of the leather(but quiet) besides the feel is better and the apperance very cool to boot.

I dont remember the brand but it is all leather and uses a special knot for adjustment. All one needs to do is slide it to the size they want and it stays. Very clever and well made. Bought mine at Cabelas.
I just went and looked at it and it's the Montana leather on a Rem 700 CDL in 243.

I'm with madman, I got a horsehair sling from Cabela's, put it on my Marlin 1895 and have been really happy with it. God Bless,

I have one of those Quick Adjust Browning slings on the Guide Gun.....very handy. If not for the Quick Adjust feature, any old sling seems to suite me just fine. Looks don't bother me much.

I like the G.I. cotton web sling I got from the folks at the Appleseed project. It's quiet, adjusts quickly, stays on your shoulder well, and cheap.

One thing it's not is pretty.
