Nice Pic. Looking at it got Me thinking (I know not a good idee this early) other than that prolly was a Beautiful Motorcyccle when new & shiny, what did Indians sound like. I don't think I've ever heard one. Do they sound anything like a Harley ?

Wow! I would like to have that one restored. I was raised there. I had a friend who had one and another that said he had bought the very last 4 clyinder indian assembled.
This one is "running" but except the tires are too good, it looks like someone just pushed it out of a old dark barn for the first time in 60 years. I owned one of the last indians made by enfield. It was a single carb 700 cc 1958. I didnt know there was only like 9 imported that last year by indian before they were done for good. At the same time I also owned a royal enfield intercepter, the same motorcycle in 750 cc with twin carbs. After that I had I think, a 1972 basket case that I didnt do anything with and sold. Years ago there was a lot of rivaly between indian and harley riders.

Yes, very similar in the cheifs but the indian 4 clyinder of course was intirely different. I also loved those old aerials 4 square. They were a big 4 clinder british bike. I also owned triumph, norton and moto guzzi. I started off with a 1946 whizzer motorbike, then about a 1947 check or "CZ". Mostly I rode hawgs.
I had a close friend that was a old strange batchlor. He had a grage full of old bikes and one was a indian just like that one that he bought new when he got home from world war two. (This guy was awarded the silver star). I know he rode it to alaska once. He mostly rode BMW`s and had a nice old single clyinder R-27 he rode a lot in town. We lived in california. The last I heard he got sick on a trip back east and died in a vet home. His house was just locked up for several years and then I heard a nephew or distant cousin got in and sold stuff off. He also had some nice guns. We rode and hunted together a lot. Somewhere I have pictures of his indian just like that one.
If I hadnt seen that it was spotted in wisconsin but was seen in california I would have swore it was my buddys old bike. His was also black and elmer used to be practical like that and just did the same with a box on the back etc.

Real good question Bill. At first it looks like a "turn limiter" to keep you from moving the front wheel  . But in studying both pictures I'm thinking it is something attached to the top of the right-hand engine guard and is actually a good 6" outside the fender, toward the photographer. We'll hope so, anyway!

Earl's the only one who noticed the extraordinarily cool "luggage box" on the back. "Hercules Powder." How cool. I guess this was one of the old delivery motorcycles back in the day ... :D - DixieBoy

The more I get looking at that indian the more I want it! I am quite sure it must have been just pulled out of a shed after being stored. It has some super rare trim options that most didnt have. That bike if sold right the way it is would probley bring $12,000 or so up without restoreing it!

It was a P-38 Holster full of Charm Pops and the kick start pedal was the barreled frame of a model 10 S&W. Yes it did sound like a Harley when he rode off.

So it wasn't a 60 year Barn store pushed out for a Photo Op. I found a couple U-tubes and heard One. I don't know why I thought that it might sound different, just the way My feeble Brain works.

Makes one wonder how many motorcycles, old guns, cars and even airplanes are stored in old barns and hay mows etc yet! I must admit I have a airplane stored now for almost 30 years. I knew of them years ago like that but not for a long time now.
I had a batchlor uncle that came home from world war two and started a hobby junk yard besides his day job. This picture of it was taken about 1953. I used to go with him getting cars etc. If this was today it would make you rich!

Very cool Indian. Love these old bike's. Many year's ago I worked with a older gentleman who was into motorcycles when he was younger, and owned Indian's and Harley's. He thought the harley a better motorcycle. I have also heard that it is easier to find a old indian in good shape vs a harley as Indian went out of business so broken bike;s sat, while Harley kept plugging along. Again this is only what I've heard. I don't know. I like em All!

Yes, I understand that Booger Bill, I was requesting the picture from Paladin. I was just at Camp Douglas this past Friday, should have taken pictures, the topography is unique.

This past weekend I was up in the Galena Illinois area and stayed at in the same hotel as an ol boy riding an old Knucklehead. It was an Illinois plate so I'm not sure how far he rode but it was loaded down with an old canvas bag that was stuffed full. I saw him ride in out out for two days but never caught up to talk. I've spent a lot of time working on and riding the old ones and they sure have a place in my heart, but I stay with the newer stuff now.
