We Won! (CRS and I)

Post by 86er »

Charles invited me to be on their sporting clays team along with Charles son and our friend Jim. The event team was sponsored by CRS son's company Explat (ballistic software apps for IPhone, etc). Charles and I were the only shooters with SXS shotguns and among the few with 20b guns. Colin shot an 1100 Special Field with 21" bbl and straight grip - not exactly the current trend in sporting clays guns. Jim had a Browning O/U 12b with screw in vented chokes. His score on par with ours! Anyway, Team Explat won for team score overall in our catagory. I also got a door prize of a gallon of Gin and a weekend getaway for two with dinner included to a local casino! My wife saw that and snagged it for her and her girlfriend to use!

Fun stuff. I don't get to shoot clays as much as I would like too. Love it. I like showing up too with my "hunting 16 gauge" guns and rattle the cages of those who before the shooting, looked down on me with some condescending snotty attitude.

I am betting (even if you weren't aware of it) you were subject to some disbelief etc pulling out sub-gauge shotguns.

It was a fun shoot. With the four of us, there was plenty to smile about; like when I called "Pull" and Joe threw three clays into the air - he knew that my gun had only two barrels! :?

Possibly so. Some shooters go to great lengths to get the best guns, ammo, gear and clothes to break that "one more bird" and they may not understand fun-shooters such as we that are shooting our bird guns with fixed chokes and field ammo. To each his own. :)

I guess if I were a serious circuit SC shooter, I am sure I would end up with some special purpose SC gun like the rest! Probably why I do well with mine, I am just having fun, relaxed, just in my own world, with a gun I have shot millions of times, Everything would probably change minute I took it serious!

Perfect! She snagged your weekend getaway so that means that you are entitled to buy a new firearm! After all, fair is fair. Right?

Sounds like fun. By the way, my son Jarrod just recently found out why he has a hard time with a shotgun. He is left eye dominant and right handed. Recently at our weekly church skeet shoot, someone told him to point it low and right. Since then, he has broken 19 out of every 25 on a regular basis. I need to get him back to where I grew up and have him shoot at some of those cackling feathered things which explode out of the ground at your feet and scare you half to death with the noise before they dive back into the milo fields about 30 yards away. He is using PillHer's Rossi Trifecta with the 20 gauge barrel on it. Me, I have to close my left eye so that I know which eye to aim with. If I shoot left handed, then I close my right eye. Not having a dominant eye can be interesting.

As far as 20 gauge goes, if you are a good shot, it kills the clay pigeon just as dead as a 12 gauge does.
