New Savage
I thought I was done buying guns, but I was getting frustrated at my .22 for sticking in the chamber so finally ordered this Savage Mark II.
It's still in purgatory but I get to shoot it since it doesn't leave the premises.
I had to order Weaver high rings since the stock goes straight back. It feels very natural, thumbhole stock, heavy weight, bull barrel. Addictive to shoot; I shot about 150 rounds today, whereas my normal visit is 25-30 rounds, get 3-4 misfires, a stuck case, get mad, go home.
No misfires, no stuck cases, a very smooth bolt. Easier to cycle than a levergun, the bolt only draws back an inch or so. Trigger is very sweet with a small leaf that lets you feel the takeup before you touch the trigger.
Because of the weight it shoots very nicely in rested positions. I was able to keep some groups touching each other at 50 feet. Those red dots are penny sized. For now it's a little harder to hold up offhand, perhaps due to the weight. But I think I'll get used to it there, too.
The smaller groups are with Fiocci subsonic, and the others are Winchester 333 1200 fps.
The way I'm used to holding rifles, unfortunately my hand conflicts with the metal magazine. It does work to take the mag out and use it as a single shot, which I like to do at the range anyway. I'll have to work on this and balancing it offhand and my posture and cheek position. However, the more I shot it, the more I liked it, and for the first time in a long time was not ready to go home and not tired after shooting.
Well, I always wanted a left-handed bolt, so I'm very happy.

Yep, pretty much acknowledged to be the most under-rated arms manufacturer in the US at the current time. Good for you El Chivo!
