I havn't even thought this through for me yet. I'll give it a good think and post it soon.
There's probably more than a thousand that if I saw them, but given my limited exposure, just what I've seen.

Can't imagine the gun that would make my collection complete, that means I wouldn't want any more!

Have always wanted a Colt Single Action .45 with 7 1/2 inch barrel. No reason, just have always wanted one , must be 60 years now or more.

Well I thought a Colt SAA would fill the Bill but One turned to 2 then 3. Maybe I'm not finished but a Winchester Model 1894 in 38-55 would make Me Happy for a while.

the three guns that I have longed over:

Pistol - a blue Colt Gold Cup National Match in .45ACP
Rifle - A genuine Lee Speed in .303 British
Shotgun - A Belgian Browning Sweet Sixteen in 16G (of course)

I think that if I got these three my (shooting) life would be complete.

The Holy Grail for me has changed from time to time, but recently it's been a pre-war 1892 Win SRC. At one point it was .44WCF, but has changed to .38-40 for reasons I can't even fully articulate. I think maybe it's partly 'cause my dream "project" gun idea is a triple threat .38-40/.40/10mm Bowen (Clements etc) & Turnbull'd Ruger convertible based on a .357 New Vaq I have, and the pairing with a 92 .38WCF I would think would just be peachy! But the rifle would also easily stand alone as my one wished for gun. My concept is one in really nice shape, and in this instance I wouldn't even care if it was a (well) "refreshed" example vs unmolested--re collectibility/value...a) don't plan on re-selling, and b) all the easier to buy in the first place! I'll but my own wear patina on it! But I like the idea of a "responsibly worn" (lots of patina, but no abuse) example as well. Or, in a cost-no object fantasy, a Turnbull- restored SRC would do just fine

Runner up: a box stock USFA Double Eagle 4" in .44 Sp.

Just wish I could put my hands on an 1886 takedown with 28" octagon barrel, trigger set, with origional globe front sight and origional 3 leaf rear or elevator sight in a 40-82 cal. and sporting a tang peep... Now that ain't asking for to much is it?

Speaking of sharps, had a black powder shoot at our club and a man brought his grandson and asked it he could use his 1859 sharps carbine with paper cartridges so we said sure. That was the first time I really got a good look at one and.... I like it!!!! I've shot the long barreled sharps but there is something about those short little carbine that I really like. Oh great, another one on my list.... Keeps getting longer.

longing over is a little extreme, but I was recently impressed by a Smith and Wesson .357, 8 shots, Scandium frame, and 5" barrel. Balanced just right, felt light and this particular one had lots of taps and rails for adding scopes or lasers.

I might be closer to longing over a 92 reproduction in .357 with a 24" octagonal barrel. I could also long over a .22lr left-handed bolt gun. But I do have those bases already covered, so it would be gratuitous to go further.

One thing that is still interesting to me is to convert a 30-30 to .357-30. Use the 30-30 case with a .357 bore. Not .358, but .357. Then I could shoot heavy pistol bullets fast, or light pistol bullets really fast. But I don't really have a gunsmith who could do it, and even the one who couldn't do it said it would cost $600.00. I'll think about it, but I do ok with my .357's.

I always admired the limited edition Savage 99 that came out in early 1970's:
- octagon barrel

It changes from time to time but currently it would be a 20" Model 99 in 25-35. Love the older 99's, especially the saddle guns and 25-35 is my favorite cartridge for bumming in the woods.

I must be a bit different. I don't "collect", I accumulate. Also, it's very unusual for met to want a particular gun, though I am waiting for Kel-tec to make enough KSGs to go around. No, I'm mostly an impulse buyer. It doesn't matter if I have any sort of preconcieved "need". It's simply "want". That's why I enjoy browsing as many gun shops as possible. I never know what will strike my fancy.

The ones built by commercial manufacturers are kinda 'spensive when you can find them, so I'm building one myself on a Savage Model 10. Just waiting for the barrel.

I've really got no use for 'decorator' guns.

Prices have allways seemed to exceed my budget by much more than I thought a tin can plinker / squirrel shooter should be worth.

Had to think a little since I pretty much have all the guns I want or need. Actually more than I need.

Winchester 1894 SRC in fine condition

Winchester 1886 SRC in fine condition

SXS double rifle, 500 NE--Rigby, H&H, Purdy, etc.

Winchester model 21, 12 ga--least expensive for around 5,000

With tons of money I'd have all of the above but still might end-up with one out of this bunch.

Back to add: Dakota Arms bolt gun, 375 H&H or 416 Rigby. Rigby with Rigby would also do.

Okay, I'm sorry. There are no leverguns or even traditional levergun calibers on my list.

After Dad passed away I finally realized time to get some of the grail guns was going by at a rapid pace. There were several that I got and having had, I'm ready to let go. An Auto Mag, Colt Woodsman Match Target and a few others of the like.

One notable exception.
Ever since I was quite young and saw them illustrated in an old back issue of the Shooter's Bible that Dad had laying around, it's been the Mannlicher Schoenauer carbine. I stumbled across a rifle and was pleased to have it, but that full-length stock was lacking. After Dad passed, I haunted GunBroker until I found a Model 1952 carbine in '06 that was priced within reason. It had the most goofy scope base imaginable, but thanks to Walker on this forum, it's now wearing a low profile peep that's functional and perfectly compliments the sleek lines of the piece. It's one of the last guns I'd part with.

BTW, a scout rifle isn't to be longed after. It's a need to be filled.

If anything, the Steyr Scout goes right after the M/S carbine.

And the Gibbs pseudo-Jungle Carbine version of the 7.62/.308 Ishapore Enfield is a handy little thing, too...although the rear sight is too far forward and the front sight tends to disappear. I've been pondering a scope base where the rear sight currently resides with a IER scope in QD rings, a receiver peep and a large bead front.
