What can I do for a bad 25-35 bore?

I have an 1894 SRC in 25-35 from 1916 that is in good mechanical condition except for a horrible bore. It's fun to shoot, but it would be more fun if the bullets all went to the same general vicinity. I’d like to get this gun working as a shooter in the original caliber.

Is there any practical way to have a 25-35 barrel relined? I know that this is commonly done for low-pressure cartridges, and that there are 1-14â€

I put one of his 25-35's (10 twist) in a H&R 28ga shotgun and reamed it to 25-20. Twenty shots the size of a half dollar at 50yds from bench with a vernier sight

Reline or re-barrrel. I'd re-lline of you're wantin'' to keep its condition "as-as" except for the bore. If I was going to re-barrel, I'd think about re-finishing the whole gun. Consider "Colt1849" here @ Leverguns.com for that type of project, I don't know if he re-lines.

I'll second John Taylor. Just got a 44/40 Marlin back from him.
Havent shot it yet, needs a fireing pin. Anyway he came highly recomended & did a great job for fair money & pretty quick turnover. Soons I get a pin from Wisners it'll go bang!

Thanks for the leads on relining. Through searching I also turned up Warner Guns Inc. http://gunporting.com/ that mentions relining 25-35s and 25-36s.

randy redman does this work and can do 25/35's; he relined an 1893 marlin 30/30 for me, and the work is beautiful and esssentially undetectable;

I'll chime in again with this advice.

My .32-40 and my son's .32-20 (especially) have benefited from using a filler in the handloading process. Both are original Winchesters that would not shoot lead straight.

After loading the powder charge in your case, add Original Shot Buffer as needed until the buffer is approximately a quarter inch below the case mouth. Seat your bullet on top of this, and I suspect you will be pleased with your rifle's accuracy.

Is it possible that the bore could be dirty and need to be cleaned?My 1892 Winchester 32-20 made in 1917 was a very accurate rifle for the years that I've had it,since 1954. It got where I could not even keep it on paper even after real good bore cleanings. Kirk told me to use 0000 steel wool on a bore brush. After a pad or two I stopped get lead, used some Hoppes #9 and it shoots like new. Just a sugestion.I had considered a reline.

Yeah, what Jerry said. Only I'd suggest looking at the Outers Foul Out machine. It will lift old fouling right off the barrel metal and take it back to "as new" or as close to as new as is possible. You'll have to do some scrubbing and degreasing, but not NEARLY as much as other methods of cleaning require. AND it would be cheaper than either a reline or rebarrel should it prove to just be a horribly dirty bore and not one that's REALLY hopeless.
