heard a new rumor

Post by pokey »

heard today, powder manufacturers are to add something to
cause aging. so that you can't "stock up" or keep powder on the
shelf for longish periods. no hoarding, no stockpiling. well i guess
you can keep it, but it won't work.

anybody else hearing such things?
careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

Both the NRA and TSRA keep close tabs on that sort of thing... there were "discussions" a couple of years ago, legislators failed to act and authorize the BATFE to issue said regs. Keep abreast of what's in the "Federal Register"... that's where all public notices and proposed rule and regulations must be promulagated before they become "law".

Rumors are nasty entreaties to encourage us to spin our wheels and tilting at windmills.

True in theory, but I'm sure in the interest of 'national security' exceptions would be made.

It's so ironic that one of the biggest reasons our nation is peaceful, relatively safe, and stable, is due to the fact that we have a civilian-ruled military, and a huge number of well-armed citizens, yet some in the government view those citizens as a 'potential threat'. Rogue governments and their genocides have consistently caused far more deaths in any given week than the gun-toting criminals in the U.S. manage in the average year...
Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws
"first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.

IF it would age on the shelf, it would age in the cartridge. Imagine the chaos that would ensue from a manufacturer making a powder that degrades purposefully. A product that many peoples lives depend on.
I'm sure that some antis would love this, but, I can't see it. Not saying that they really care about people's lives either.

This same rumor has been circulating since the late 80's about powder and primers.Someone has way too much time on their
hands thinking up this nonsense. This caused the first primer shortage that I can recall. Folks hoarded up the primers on hand so that they would have the "good" ones before the fast aging ones came out, circa late eighties.

Yeah, the NRA is real good at that. Like the time gov't almost outlawed lead bullets. NRA never noticed util time for proposed regulatory comments had expired.

Yep, but somehow they missed the lead bullet ban in CA. But, that's not a law but a "Hunting Regulation" isn't it?

From Griff:
"Keep abreast of what's in the "Federal Register"... that's where all public notices and proposed rule and regulations must be promulagated before they become "law"."

Actually, the feds can do interim rules without notice and come later to post the notice. So, they would post the interim rule and ask for comments on to "improve" the rule. They would then post a notice explaining why your comments don't improve the rule. But it is well worth the effort to track what is published in the Federal Register!!!
