Anybody use orange, plastic, bouncing targets?

Post by 2571 »

Shaped like a 5" hat, ball or box. Supposedly good for 10K shots & cost about $20-30. I assume 10 K hits is sheer fantasy but they look like they'd be fun.

I've got the "hat", the "box" and the "round ball", plus a couple of crow and prairie dog targets, and a green spinner too. My kids love plinking at 'em with the 22s.

I've even shot mine with 380s, 9mm and 45 ACP. Just be sure not to use hollow points on them!

Mine have more damage from the few shots I took with 32 H&R Mag hollowpoints than the dozens of hits with the 45 ACP round nose. Those hollow points will leave a 1/8" wide deep dimple in the plastic, while you couldn't force a piece of string through the "hole" left by the 45, as it really does seal up well.

I haven't counted how many hits on each, but I'm sure I've got thousands more to go.

Just be sure you have a safe backstop, and that your range allows targets to be placed at the bottom of the berms.

yes sir! lots of fun and younger shooters, who are learning, love seeing the hit and knowing immediately they have scored. nothing like seeing a lovely 14 year old girl empty the 25 round mag of a ruger 10/22 into the target, faster than you can count, making that target move constantly......and her 12 year old brother trying to match that!

and then they started in on it with the ak-47 and then the car-15 and their mom started hitting it too and ......well you get the picture!

I am impressed so far. I just picked one up not long ago. This one has soaked up about 100 or less of .45 FMJ. The directions say not to use hollow points. Time will tell, but it seams to soak them up well, and quite a hoot. I thought it good practice for quick target acuisition and it is quite livley to 20 yards or so with the 45.

I have the self-sealing swingers and they work very well too, though if you shoot them with something like a .223, they don't react that much to the hit.

I've seen them at Cheaper Than Dirt and wondered how they held up.

I have seen them at Bass Pro. I thought they were a little spendy, but what is shooting fun worth anyways? :D

You could get a dozen of them, take a marker and mark an "X" on half of them (on several places), and an "O" on the others. Take a brushy or woodsy but safe area to shoot, as a trail along a hillside, and one person 'plants' the targets randomly along the trail at different distances. The other then must travel the trail, and shoot all the targets with 'O's, but none of the targets with 'X's, and do it as fast as possible.

We did that using old bleach-bottles; 5 points per O hit, 10 points subtracted if you shot an X one, and added 5 points if you got one with an 'O' inside the O. If I recall, we took the total trail time in seconds and subtracted the target points, and the lowest score won.
