OT To my landlocked bretheren, just twisting the knife

Post by pharmseller »

I'm about 10 weeks out from dumping my boat back in the ocean for 6 months.

Image

I have a new plan for crabbing the ocean:

Leave the pots in all summer!

I was talking to a guy and that's what he does. Instead of storing his pots on the dock in between fishing trips, he just loads them with bait and lets them soak, a la Deadliest Catch. Instead of hauling the pots in and out, he just takes bait to them and brings crab home.

Image

They get BIG in the ocean.

Image

I expect hauls like this every time.

Image

And then they become this.

Image

Countdown to 5 May 2012 has begun.

Sorry you're having to wait so late. The white bass run on the James River will be all over by then, and we'll be hunting turkeys.

Hmm, most folks around here who want to keep theres in the water year round. Yea, I know it's tough, but somebody has to live where the weather is pleasant most of the year.

Good for you. I prefer not to have to go to the hospital.

'Tween there and Winchester are some of my favorite OR coast spots.... lots of river to explore, and then some ocean too. Great fun.

I'm going to set up my bank dory for some of each. Are you allowed to spear dungies?

Nice set up you've got there. Your anchor, how do you like it? and does it hold well? Looks sort of like what we use in the rivers.

There's a lot of folks who really like crab and crab dishes. I'm not one of them.

You go right on ahead and catch and ingest them all, I'll stay out of your way.

To me crab is right up there with haggis, balut, and civet coffee.
