Need ideas on a good concealed carry holster

I finally acquired a concealed carry gun, and now I need suggestions on what kind of holster to carry it in. I like some of the IWB designs, but I'm trying to find something I can wear while at work with my shirt tucked in and crawling around working on machines occasionally. The gun is a Springfield 1911 that has a compact frame size, but a Commander size slide. I need one that is very comfortable and won't print or come out from under a tucked in shirt. Thanks.

I got a FIST brand one (http://www.fist-inc.com/galeryholst.htm), made for a full-size 1911 (works for my Para double-stack), but usually use it for my 'Officer' sized 1911; it works just fine for either, but with the shorter-barrel gun, the muzzle gouges way less when in an awkward position.

I would recommend the Crossbreed Supertuck. It gets rave reviews, and is demonstrated on Youtube... It hides even large guns pretty well.

I've tried several holsters with my full size 1911. My favorite is the Milt Sparks Versa Max 2. You have to wait 6 months to get it but it is worth it. Very comfortable and high quality.

You can set it up for inside or out. Makes the piece disappear! Very comfortable. Not bad on the checkbook either. I also have a Sparks and Mernicle both of which I like but I seem to gravitate towards the Simply rugged.

Cruise, I really like Rob's stuff from Simply Rugged, and know Rob is a stand-up guy. Can you use his holsters with your shirt tucked in? Normally I don't wear my shirt tucked, but am required to for work, so I need something I can carry under those circumstances.

I'm not crazy about kydex, but those Crossbreed holsters look like they might be just the ticket.

I've carried a Glock 30 concealed IWB for 20 hours straight in one (the C-Tac). Last hour or two was not fun, otherwise, no issues.

Using the V-clips (velcro attached to the inside of your belt and velcro on the clips) with a shirt tucked in, there is literally nothing to see.

I use the standard clips and even then, very little to see.

Here's another vote for Crossbreed. My Uncle makes a holster called the "Improved Ghetto Holster". It is a simple V shaped holster. Clip on outside. The gun is held by an adjustable barrel ring and there is a sweatguard. You can tuck your shirt in so only a small clip shows. Very inexpensive. Stop by and I'll show it to you.

I don't care for IWB. So I won't comment on them. But someone mentioned the Yaqui slide. I like these and have several. But here's a suggestion I think most folks should also have one of. The Beltster from http://www.banderagunleather.com/ isn't something I use every day, but there are times, like flying, that I will wear it. Makes it simple to be armed at the other end of the flight once you pick up your luggage.

The Kangaroo works (I have one) but I believe recently the company changed hands, so they may be harder to get. Local shop (cop shop) was carrying them and selling lots, then.....nothing.


They're a bit slow but when absolute concealment is an issue and it's a small/medium size piece, it does work. You could make your own with a belly band and an added shoulder strap.

Joe, I might take a look at one of your uncle's holsters sometime, but after reviewing all of the suggestions made I think I will go with the Crossbreed Supertuck. It looks like just what I need. Galco makes a very similar holster, the King Tuck, but there are a couple of things I like better about the Crossbreed.

Both the M Sarks VM2 or Rosen ARG do a good job for my Colt's Government Model Series 70s I alternat them depending on what I wear -

I found this old thread on CCW holsters from earlier this year while trying to decide on a holster for myself.

The Crossbreed Supertuck seems highly recommended, so I went to their website to price one out. The horse hide version came in at $85 plus shipping. Hmmm... did some more looking and on Ebay I found an exact copy for $38 including shipping:

At less than half the price of the Crossbreed, and me being a cheapskate, I decided to take a chance on one of the Ebay versions. Since I am a lefty, I figured it would take a little extra time to make me a holster. To my surprise, the seller contacted me a day later to say my holster had been shipped via USPS. It arrived in less than a week!

The quality is excellent, and I found it so comfortable that I went back and bought another for my other carry gun. It doesn't always pay to be cheap, but in this case I was very happy with my savings.

The VersaMax (BTW, there are places that sell them in stock, and you can always get one on the 1911 forum classifieds), while a nice holster, is not tuckable. Same with Yaqui slide and FIST.

Where are you going to carry? Since it's a Commander length slide, I'm assuming at 4:30 rather than appendix?
