Unconventional .410'ng
Meet the Truck Gun.
I was talking with another weirdo of my acquaintance and he said that these little short shotties do some interesting things if you dump the pellets out of a .410 and insert an arrow all the way into the shot cup from the muzzle - then screw on the broadhead.
Kind of a single shot dry-land harpoon gun.
Anybody actually tried something like that in their wayward youth?

Re: Unconventional .410'ng
LOL My ole man did something like that with a shortish barrelled 20 ga. He used an arrow shaft with a small tennis ball-ish dog ball on the end and a bit of tape wrapped around the base end as a wad to hold the shaft against the inside of the shot cup. It seriously retrained a neighborhood dog that was always getting into his garbage.

depending on the type, should roll up around the shaft just fine & open on exiting the muzzle. ???20cows wrote:Fletching?

Re: Unconventional .410'ng
Probably not... OTOH it probably wouldn't be "illegal" during gun season and could make the .410 just a scosh more effective on deer sized game than a 1/5 oz "slug"...

On the TV show "Son OF Guns" the folks at Redjacket worked up some "arrow loads" in the .410 this past season. they got them to shoot pretty well as I rember.Yes it sure can be done. .

Re: Unconventional .410'ng
Actually I have heard of it being done. I'm not sure I see the point ( no pun) in it though given the quality of today's compound bows. I would think a modern compound bow or even a modern crossbow would be more effective because of the ease with which these items can be aimed.

We used to do it when I was a kid. With a 410 you have to trim off the fleching, but with a 12 gauge you can leave them on. We used to shoot old junk cars or in our youth and stupidity, shoot them at an angle totally out of sight.Old Ironsights wrote:Meet the Truck Gun.

They normally weren't that accurate as I remember. There was too much room for the shaft to be leaning in towards one side. I'd say a person could put some sort of spacer on the shaft to hold it closer to the center of the bore and improve things a bit though.Nath wrote:Did they fly true JB?JB wrote:We used to do it when I was a kid. This post just keeps recurving to the silly. Wood it hurt to just laminate some of the puns, or maybe they just won't stand solo, cam they? Perhaps it is just that the ideas for puns only open on impact. It does show that we have a lot of razor sharp folks here.
On the real side, couldn't you mount something like a whisker biscuit on the end to help keep the arrow shaft straight?

I'm not sure a whisker biscuit would work. 1st, attaching it would be a pain and 2nd the shot cup would tear the heck out of it.
