I'm amazed that there are no dings or gouges in the bottom of the brass elevator. You almost always see scratches and such there. Wonderful rifle.

Yeah Mike, I'm not expecting to enter into the bidding at these levels; I'm more into picking up old guns whose collector value has been seriously compromised by some bubba factor that doesn't really hurt the shootability of the weapon. But I appreciated looking at the pictures and have noticed that this seller does a fine job with his pictures and I would feel comfortable buying from him. Also he isn't playing any games -- starts at $.01, no reserve, and lets 'er rip. My kinda' guy!

If it was a ELW '86 in any caliber but .33 W.C.F. I might be tempted, but not for a '73. Let the BIG BOYZ get into that kind of Winchester.

Sold for $4,525. That would be a high price for a 73 in that condition. However, that's a bargain for a 1st Model 1873 in that kind of condition.

I'm with you, Sixgun. No way is that gun worth what it "sold" for. These days sellers are asking 12K for '94s for cryin' out loud. IMM, no 1894 should bring that much, but internet sites are overrun with "star pilots" reaching for the troposphere with their goods.

Yep! We old heads remember the days when a '94 was just that, a '94, and unless it had engraving or a pistol grip stock, it was worth $2-300, depending on caliber. The internet really screwed things up because now everyone is a Winchester/Colt expert. I see guys walking into the better shows demanding 2K for a barn condition 1892 in 32-20 with a sewer pipe for a bore. They say, "I looked on the internet and I saw one for 2K".

I turned one down last week for $300. It was original but really beat up.

Just two months ago a guy was hawking a pair of SA Colts that were parts guns with no finish, all with sloppy mechanics. He wanted 2 g's for one and 25 c-notes for the other. I did not even respond---just turned and walked away. I'm tired of educating these jerks.

I see this one different, Mike: this fellow started her at .01 with no reserve. There were 37 bids from 16 different bidders and the high bidder now owns the gun. That's a pretty fair test of the market for that condition '73 I'd say.

So put yours up there Sixgun, see how close it'll come to the $12 Million. Might come closer than you think.
