To sling or not to sling.....

Post by Pathfinder »

'tis the question.

Thoughts on putting a sling on the Henry Big Boy?

Good Idea or not?

If so is it better to have a gunsmith/ shop do it or...?

Thanks

Definitely a hunting gun which is exactly why I am even considering it.

You can always take a sling off. But if you don't have one and you need both hands....

If your hunts involve a lot of hiking or you hunt in places where you often need to use both hands a sling would be helpful.
Other than that, the lever action is a perfect carry gun, and a sling will give you something extra to get snagged up on bushes and stuff with.

A sling is great off hand shooting aide. Try shooting a rifle with one, and then without, and make up your own mind. Bet your scores greatly improve. Easy to install, even I can do it

Ever try to drag a deer without one? I almost always have one on my hunting rifles. Be sure to use the quick detachable swivels as I find slings in the safe to be a bother.

An easily-detachable carry strap will do, for "after the kill" carry..
My favorite is made of medium-weight leather, slit lengthwise for a 3-strand "mystery braid," with a J hook at the butt end, which hooks into an eye near the toe of the stock, and a twisted loop at the other end, to go over the barrel. When hand-carrying the rifle, the strap goes in my jacket/coat pocket, or in my day pack...

I would dearly like to see this set up.

I put sling swivel studs on it and use a quock detach sling. Just carry it in your pocket if you don't like hunting with it on and then attach the sling if you need to drag a deer.

+1

Just attach some sort of jerry-rigged sling after the kill for the hump out
