Eastern Carbine Update... I Bought It

Post by CBinNH »

I decided that I liked it well enough to own it. http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... =1&t=39006 I don't see
this configuration very often. Got it & a box of Winchester ammo for $425. It just feels good in my hands. Bore cleaned up
nice & shiney with good rifling. Still in the teens here so I didn't try it yet. It does feed
& eject well. Last 2 pics show the issues. Here she is:

Nice acquisition that's for sure. The issues don't seem like ones I couldn't get over in a heartbeat.

Sounds like a good price and it does have plenty of character.

As far as the 'issues', I would fix the crack and leave the gouge. How did they do that anyway, start chopping it up for kindling?

I'm not even sure I would do major amounts of stripping and cleaning.

If it shoots well, leave as-is and make up a lot of good stories to go along with it!

Not bad, not bad at all. I wouldn't loose any sleep over the issues. They don't affect the shooting of it.

I think you made a real good choice, oil it up and use it.

CAUTION!

Replace the stock and forend and hang on to the origionals without repairing them. Your grandkids will thank you in about 100 years!

Wood for that gun is easily found either new and needing finishing, or prefinished.

What a great deal.............If you want to make an easy $100 I'll give yopu $525.............

What in the foot fire made that gouge in the butt-stock? I think it adds character too and wouldn 't bother me a bit if it were mine. Do you keep bedding compound? Like Acraglass or similar? Just leave out the stuff that makes it thick and the dye too. Best glue you will ever find for that crack in the fore-end.
Great find. Enjoy!

I dunno, but I'd check the tang area for a crack and maybe a bent tang, looks like someone grabbed it by the barrel and took a swing at something pretty hard.

Beautiful gun!
Kind regards,

Yeah know, I would bet if we could just talk to and hear some of the stories
from the previous stewards of the guns that we are now the stewards of I have
a hunch we wouldn’t touch a ding, scratch, or dent on these old girls.
