Different (to me) Win 1894 Front Sight

Post by CBinNH »

My Winchester 1894 32-40 has this front sight. Is it a Sheard? No name on it I can see. Is it meant for 50 & 100 yard depending on which is being used? It has the standard rear buckhorn type sight. Thanks.

This appears to be a Lyman No. 5A, a combination front sight designed for either target work using the hooded sight or hunting using the "Barleycorn" open sight.

(per page 54 of book "Old Gunsights" by Nick Stroeber)

I have the version on the left and it is very well made. Not cheap, but worth it.
