What is sad is that Joe Blow without skills would be out of luck or dead because he can't carry weapons in that stupid burg.

Re: Sometimes The Good Guy Wins
The problem with THREATENING somebody with a gun (or anything), is some people don't scare that easy, and others are just plain insane.
Thirty or so years ago I had a gun pulled on me when I drove a taxi cab. The miscreant was well known to the cab company, and they knew he'd called a cab, so he was NOT gonna get away with shooting me if he did...
So I looked him in the eye and deadpanned "Loren, either shoot me or put that thing away. Either way I DON'T CARE. If you shoot me I'll either die or get well, but you are going back (I knew he'd done 5 in State Penn before). No way you "win" this one."
Through a mix of cocaine and heroin that made his voice tough to understand, he muttered "this (explicative deleted) is crazy" and shoved the revolver back in the waistband of his pants, then proceeded to pay for the cab and give me a $20 tip.
What he (or most people I tell this story) failed to understand is I KNEW he had the drop on me. I'm looking down the wrong end of a .38 revolver at less than 4 feet, and I'm in a car in a parking place, in park, and he's standing next to the door. Anything I DO is not gonna be faster than a trigger pull, and he almost can't miss. So I ASSUMED the only way out was to let him know I was NOT afraid, his efforts to humiliate me would have to come in lead or not at all, and pointed out what WOULD happen to him if he did.
I still wish I woulda had a gun and that I'd shot that sum----, but it happened how it did...
For my part of the (unspoken) bargain, I didn't call the law afterward because I knew the pistol belonged to his GF and she woulda done more time than him,and I figured the word would go out among his "homeys" there was nothing t be gained from messing with me.....

Maybe addressing him by name had a powerful effect in that situation?adirondakjack wrote:The problem with THREATENING somebody with a gun (or anything), is some people don't scare that easy, and others are just plain insane.

The picture of that dill weed's face just made my day
One of the few times somebody like that gets what he deserves immediately without having to wait for "due process"
to paraphrase a quote from the movie "Road House" --- People who go looking for trouble are usually not much of a threat to the people who are prepared to deal with them
