That is pretty slick. I like everything about it except the smallish wheels (lousy in sand, etc). But if they work where you shoot, then by gumbo that's a fine looking cart.

That`s a fine lookin cart pard. Mine is just a simple open one. I have to agree with those who say the wheels are too small though.
CAS is a good sport for fellers like me who likes to make their own stuff!
Here is mine.
Those wheels have been replaced with solid rubber and steel spoked 13" ones from a Craftsman lawn mower.
They push real nice.

You are quite a craftsman. I can cut boards and swing a hammer. I can build a shipping crate with the best, but I am no carpenter. You did good.

Really nice job on the woodwork. Not sure how well your system would work here in the UK as our CAS rules require guns to be transported with the actions open. I have designed a cart for a winter project but I need to become more proficient with a router before I start. Our range is muddy year-round so I will use 14in wheels with 4in pneumatic tyres. My range box design has a hinge-down front panel and internal drawers like a machinists tool cabinet so I don't have to rummage around in a box.

Opps! Didn't read the CAS rules fully. I now modified the hinges to make the covers removable so the actions can be open during transport.
See the article for updated pictures of this modification.

Perry,
As they do here also. But in practical application, if the gun is inside a closed box, it's out of sight, and just as if they were being carried in a hard or soft case, the "action open" rule needn't apply. Once removed from the box, or the box, opened, the action must be opened.

Thanks for the clarification Griff, but now with the removable doors, there is no issue.

I'll get a pic of mine tomorrow. Mine pretty much looks like yours in the original post....without the two longer boxes.

Re: For Those into CAS...Here's my finished Gun Cart
I took folks advise and decided to go with bigger wheels. I searching for a set of wheels, I found 16" spoked wheels for $20-$30 each. I didn't want chrome, but that was all I could find. I figured I'd paint them black. As I was searching, I received an email from Cabelas and it had a Deer Cart on sale for $49 with 16" Black wheels !
I ordered it and it showed up three days later. It included a nice set of black 16" wheels, a few nylon tie down straps, 6 clevis locking pins an axle and a few nuts and bolts.....and a whole bunch of aluminum that can be used on various other projects!
The smaller wheels had an axle running the entire width of the cart.
This wouldn't do as it would raise the height of the cart too much.
I cut the axle that came with the deer cart for two "axle stubs". I welded these to a couple small plates of steel. And usiong 4 nuts and bolts, I bolted them to the sides of the gun cart.
The cart rolls much nicer now over rough ground. And I think it looks a whole lot better..........

Love the coffin look! We have a fellow up here in Massachusetts that has a similar, yet a bit smaller, coffin case. Gets lots of attention at the shoots.

Re: For Those into CAS...Here's my finished Gun Cart
do you need a caddy for that...? :)
Re: For Those into CAS...Here's my finished Gun Cart
It works fine, it isn't the typical "wimpy" cart most are used to, but it will protect your guns in bad weather and it is made to lay flat and to be used as a seat also. I take all sorts of guns to a shoot, I enjoy Cowboy Action more for the guns and history than for just shooting. If all I had to use were Marlins and Rugers, I would do something else...
