I Headed out today to get an antelope with my 375 BB, snuck up on one, shot em and then went to clean him. Was a nice Buck.
Started to gut em and then the weird stuff started pouring out of him!
Looked really bad, so I went a bit further on him then it was worse, looking like yellow cottage cheese! UGH...
After that I quit and wanted someone out to look at this animal... warden etc someone.
I did get the warden and he came out, said yep he never seen nothing like it. there goes my tag!!!!
Course they will not give me another... so I am peeved~
He did say they would let me know the results of this animal, guess a buffalo hunt up the road it going to be my next fix. With the CWD and now this and the deer I shot last year having CWD I cant waste my money anylonger.
Hoping the rancher up the road who raises thoses buffs will be good?

Really, really sorry to hear that, Ollogger. The WA St. Dept. of F&W doesn't recognize CWD here, yet. But, there was a buck that died in county last year and my buddy had a chance to look at it. F&G took it and somewhat said they were going to check it for CWD. Never heard if it was CWD or not.

I wish our DNR at least screened 1 of every 100 or something for CWD, but I don't think they do anything of the sort. The 'check stations' process is very fuzzy, with the data collected not even allowing you to say you used a 'pistol-caliber levergun' (which has been legal for 5 years I think), so you have to just lie and say a 'shotgun' or 'handgun' or 'muzzleloader'. Any data they were planning to use to see if pistol-caliber rifles increased youth participation is null and void. Typical government idiocy...

Joking aside, sometimes I find a rabbit with something like this. I think it is when then have been fighting and or otherwise obtain a wound and bacteria gets in etc (am I stating the obvious?)

i made a short stalk bout 400 yd. they were laying on a side hill
i missed judged a little & they saw me first, of course they took off
i hollerd at them & the buck stopped the shot was bout 100 yd.
he just went down right, load was 36 gr. RL 7 220 gr hornady
wife called cheyenne no luck there but there sending a complaint form

I wholly agree you should get another tag. It's just the right thing to do. And, because they can.

That's one of the bad parts of the game and fish statute. Next time don't fill out your tag until you're all done dressing the critter out.

You could probably call some of the processors like Grizzly in Douglas or the one over in Lusk and see how they're setting for "donated" antelope. They usually get more antelope "donated" than they can get rid of, might be able to get some meat anyways.

Well maybe maybe not on a deal like that, Plus the the law reads that you only have to do the tag thing when you leave the scene of the kill. As long as you're still there you don't have to sign ,date or detach the tag.
Then a warden is more likely to tell you go ahead and shoot another one. Once that tag is off the license that license is no longer valid.

Nath, CWD is similar to Mad Cow Disease and no one seems to truly know what causes it. Lots of theories, and evidence of proteins being in the wrong sequence so that they fold in the wrong shape. It appears to be transmitted from the saliva of an infected animal to other animals when they eat from the same plant within minutes of each other. That is a theory. As of yet, nobody is quite able to prove their theories.

Well the only constallation that I know to tell you is that I would rest better knowing I was on the side of caution rather than continue to harvest the meat from the animal and then latter find it had CWD the hard way after a family member or friend had consumed the meat. Better luck next year.

Here in N.Y. If your deer is deemed by the D.E.C. Unfit to consume they will give you another tag.

You can't see CWD, they have to take tissue samples and run a lab test on them to confirm the desease. What ever olloggers antelope had was likely some sort of infection, most likely from an injury of some sort he had recieved in the previous week or so.

I don't know about Wyoming, but here in North Dakota a tag guarantees you an opportunity to hunt, but does not guarantee you the quality of the game. You would not get a replacement tag here.

About 30 years ago I shot one like that. Went to gut it, made one cut and discovered it was putrid as can be. Did not tag it, left it for the coyotes and ravens. Do not have a guilty conscience.

It's amazing how animals can be standing and look fairly normal with disease like this. A human would have been horizontal or dead with guts ravaged like that. Disgusting too!!

I agree that it's dang unfair about the tag though. Keep after 'em at the state!
