Have Gun - Will Travel

Post by olyinaz »

What a discovery! After "listening" to some of the talk here about what a great show this was (and reading nothing but good things about it elsewhere) I finally ordered the first season on DVD. I've been ripping the episodes on the computer and formatting them for my iPad using Handbrake so that I can watch them on the road. They're just great!! Jeez, I had no idea this show was so good.

It's also available for streaming at Netflix just FYI.

Great stuff!

As far as I'm concerned, that's where Richard Boone really made his bones.

When that series first aired, I pretty much stopped watching the other wannabe's.

The thing I like about it is that there is always a moral lesson involved.

Yes - the original. And like it's been said it really was a cut above. Good writing, shot largely outdoors on location, half-hour episodes that didn't waste time on foolishness. Very much like Wanted: Dead or Alive in many of these respects but I'm actually liking it a bit better. The only thing that's been hokey thus far has been the portrayal of Native Americans (stereotype 1950s white-guys dressed up as generic Indians) but it's fun to see so many actors who would later be big Hollywood stars make appearances in the episodes.

For those wondering what Handbrake is - it's a program that will take DVDs or Blu-Rays and convert them into a format for use on your computer or handheld devices like iPhones or iPads. If anyone would like a tutorial on how to do that, just let me know and I'll post one. It's pretty easy but there are a few gotchas so getting "the gouge" (the inside scoop) helps.

Best,
Oly

They do - but what they watch is "Gone in 60 seconds", geared more to most's attention span. ;)

I have watched it with my son. He is probably the only Junior in his High School who knows who Paladin is. I also had him research what a Paladin Knight is, and he understands the name. Great show.

The original was a radio program. John Dehner played Paliden.

They are available as free downloads in Mp3 format at the above link.

The original Gunsmoke series is at this site also.
