POLITICS - California lead ban
I know this has been posted before however I think most do not know how much area is involved .This ban will possibly cover a third of the state. It will include zones D7,D8,D9,D10,D11,D13 and most but not all of A zone (southern part ).Rimfire ammo is for the most part out as well as muzzleloaders. Also there is mention of using certified ammo ( can not reload your own ?)This also affect private property not just PUBLIC lands!Thank you Arnold Schriver!

Hey J apparently there is a list with more to come on the fish and game web site and they even admit that that is no assurance intill they have a certification process in the Spring.Game wardens are yet to be trained to familiarize themselves with "legal" projectiles. This is all on http://WWW.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/hunting/ ... mmo-ca.pdf

Yes, I think that is it....Old Savage wrote:Apparently we are not allowed to shoot the condors with the lead bullets. It is bad for them or some such nonsense. So there is special ammo that must be used in condor country. Do I have that straight?
It might also have to do with something along the lines of "regulate it till no one
wants to do it anymore".
With so many rules about a certain subject, they have the right to stop you
and ask questions and search you anytime they want.
"Yes, that is the proper firearm and ammo to hunt in this area, now will you
please open your trunk so we can make sure you do not have any lead."
"I understand you were going to hunt with the correct ammo which you have,
but because you have this box of lead 22's also I have no choice but to confiscate
your firearm and ticket you."

I think you are safe using any projectile on the condors intill July 1,2008 after that they have to be unleaded! Also since pellet gun are not considered weapons you are safe there too!
I will still be doing squirrel control with my .22s, you can bet on that. For bigger stuff, like deer and hogs, it will be reloads using Barnes all copper bullets. I have them for my .30s and .45s, so far. 165 Triple Shocks for the .30s and 300s for the .45-70 and .45-90.

While I understand the frustration I think the Governator is pretty well overmatched by what has to be the most liberal, (not in a good way), leftist, socialistic, almost communist state legislatures in the country. With all due respect I think Arnold is the only voice of reason and sanity left in the entire state government in the once great State of California. After spending most of my life there, I finally fled in 2001. What a great place it was to grow up in the 60s. Not anymore but it isn't all Arnold's fault. JMHO and as always YMMV.Thank you Arnold Schriver!

You better believe F&G is equally at fault. The bill signed by Arnie did NOT include rimfires and our own F&G added that part. You can also believe I wrote them one scathing letter about it as well.
I also informed they they need to get their facts right and correct their online statement, about the only lead free rimfire ammo being 22WMR.
There is NONE!
I hope they used lead pellets in a shotgun for that beef they lay out for those stupid birds.

As long as you don't shoot ground squirrels with the pellet gun you are.

I've got 6-boxes of Remington 12ga 2¾" 1OZ Premium Copper Solids and 1-box of Remington 12ga 3" 1&1/16OZ Premium Coper Solids on hand so, if I want to go hog hunting in the "Lead Free Area" I'm all set.
I just happened to look at them yesterday while organizing some of my ammo and I paid $9.75 per box for the 2¾" Copper Solids (5-pack) and $10.75 per box for the 3" Copper Solids (5-pack). Depending on where you get them now they run $16.95 per box of 5.
The "Lead Ban" is a big pain in the patootie but as always, we'll work around it one way or the other.

They are really only for use in rifled bores due to them being sabots. They sure put a hurtin on deer.sobenk wrote:Ed, thanks for mentioning that, I didn't know you could get copper slugs in 12 gauge.

Yes, the Copper Solids are a Sabot round meant to be used in a fully rifled barrel; HOWEVER, they work quite well in a smooth bore barrel with a rifled choke tube. Further, I have used them in a smoothbore, non-choked barrel with great success. They function much better than the old Forster lead slug. And as Jeremy said, they put a hurtin on deer and they are definitely potent on hogs too.
They are just what the doctor ordered for lead free areas.
EDIT:
You can get a new Remington 870 Express Pump Shotgun with a fully rifled barrel very cheap and if you already have a Remington 870 or Remington 11-87, you can get a fully rifled barrel for them at a very cheap price from Cabela's or MidwayUSA.
Cabela's offers a cantilevered, fully rifled barrel, with a scope attached for around $269.00. Very cheap and a good buy.
These little gems/ideas are what's going to make the lead ban tolerable.

Boy, I don't know how many times that it needs to be repeated:txpete wrote:just for the life of me I don't understand WHY anyone would live in the commie state.we got lots of room in texas for you.come on or keep crying .

It starts in California and spreads like a disease.
Look what is happening with microstamping.
Several other states' activists are claiming ingested lead from firearms are causing deaths in other animal species.
Eagles, in Montana,are one example.
