For my everyday woods bumming most of the year, my 44 Marlin CB gets the nod. Killed a bull elk with it a few months back.
I sure do like hunting with my 71 though. Elk aren't safe out to 250 yards

The best levergun poll.

My go to gun for hunting is a 70's vintage BLR in 308. Reason is that its absolutely accurate. It's a quick woods gun and handles deer and elk with dispatch.
That said, my 86 in 40-82 is really fun to shoot and is going to see some action this fall for the first time in 80+ years.
As others have said, the best is what you have for the use that you have for it. We are just lucky that we can do it with a lever!

In 1985 I paid $200 for a new Marlin 336ER / .356 Winchester. In 1998, before the prices went through the roof, I sold it for $450 then commenced to pat myself on the back for being such a good gun trader.
Well, as y'all know, Marlin only made 2,441 of them and now you can't touch one for less than $1200. That transaction was bad enough, but the worst part is that it was a really good shooter. I developed a load with the Speer 220 grain FNSP and H322 that would group an inch or so MOA with some groups under 3/4".
That was 10 years ago and I can't seem to get past letting it go and have been buying leverguns like crazy in an attempt to fill that void.
My current favorite levergun is a Browning BLR LW in .358 Winchester followed closely by an 1886 Japchester and three Marlins. An M375 in .375 Winchester, a 336SS-LTD in .35 Remington and a 336CB Cowboy in 38-55.
