OT: Nepalese soldier issued England's second highest award

LONDON (AFP) – A Nepalese soldier in the British army has been given a top bravery award by Queen Elizabeth II for his heroics in Afghanistan, where he single-handedly saw off more than 30 Taliban fighters.

Corporal Dipprasad Pun, 31, said he thought he was going to die and so had nothing to lose in taking on the attackers who overran his checkpoint.

He was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross (CGC), which is given in recognition of acts of conspicuous gallantry during active operations against the enemy.

"I had so many of them around me that I thought I was definitely going to die so I thought I'd kill as many of them as I could before they killed me.

"After that I thought nobody can kill us now -- when we met the enemy I wasn't scared."
Well done Trooper.

His mindset reminds me of the old saying You may find my dead in a ditch someday but, by God, I'll be in a pile of my own brass...

or, that which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error.

Dipprasad's full story can be read at the following site. There is much colorful language and I can't spell out the site correctly but you'll get the idea of what you have to change to get to it. Once there click full list; it's an interesting although colorful site. The stories are a mix of real and fictional characters; some on the right side of the law and some not.

That "rough character" of the week website does have some interesting biographies, but the author(s) can't seem to put more than two sentences together without a word that would be pronounced "bleep" on the airwaves. I did see some names there that I'd not heard of, and after scanning the article and chuckling a bit at the author's colorful descriptions, went to Wikipedia or elsewhere to learn more.

A good friend was an Air Force PJ....I do believe some of maybe even most of the Bad Butt stuff you hear about just might be true. The PJs went in and SAR/Medic'ed the ones that got in trouble and needed out quickly.
