...and I'm not going to ask if I should buy it because I know what y'all will say.
Here's the skinny from the ad: Serial #1278934 (1941-1944). Condition is good for this year of gun. $400 firm.
I can't pass along pics, but the bluing is mostly gone. Silvered. Wood looks good, no cracks, no rust. No idea of barrel or bore condition.
How does the price stack up?

Hard to tell anything w/o pics. But you said:
Why that vintage seems to generate such interest escapes me. It just seems that the very flat buttplate, with it's coarse checkering is WAY less than comfortable, I much prefer the earlier carbines, so my input can be discounted as prejudiced.
so I would kinda say that price is on the higher side of value. But, not by very much. I've seen them sold higher and lower...but the bluing is mostly gone. Silvered

If the bore is good and the action is tight, I don't think $400.00 is a bad price ... for a shooter.

I'm with Joe, I paid more for Mine but It is 25-35. If U stated Cal. I missed it, that goes a ways in pricing.
Now how much more is it going to cost to get it to U.

You won't know till you handle and inspect it. If you have an option to return it, if you aint satisfied, 4 bills aint bad.

Yeah, if the bore is good and it locks up tight... then I'd say go.

It's a .30-30 and the sale would be FTF.
I'd be happy at $350
