My new Springfield M1A NM rifle came in today. I shot 10 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm NATO ball ammo through it to check it out. Does not have near the recoil I though it would have and I am able to sight through the peep sights very well with my less than optimal eyes. The walnut stock is excellent too. I will shoot more rounds to get used to the rifle and let it settle in before I zero it in. The rifle was shootin about 3-6 inches low at 80 yards this morning. I think this rifle would be just the tool to have in the mountains of Afghanistan.

Yep, the M1A's are nice rifles. I went with the Scout Squad myself. If you did good with the original irons, put a scope or a red dot, and see how much better you'll do. Optics are a blessing for aged eyes.

Yes -- if you find yourself there, i dearly hope you are hunting some kind of weird mountain sheep or goat --- the M1A will do it to it
My eldest went hunting weird thing in Afghanistan. He found it was nice to have an Apache covering his hind end.
