Winchester 94 shotgun, Who knew?

Post by TMair »

How many people knew that Winchester made a model 94 shotgun called the 9410?
I had no idea until I did a search on Auctionarms for Winchester 94 and they have one for sale.

I have owned 1 or 2 along the way. They are out there and they are not inexpensive. 1886.

That's true, this one was over $1000.
I don't think I want one, but how did they shoot?

They shot well enough. I viewed them more as a novelty. Just my opinion. 1886.

That's what I thought...considering it seamed pretty novel to me.

Could have had one for not much money several years back.

I couldn't envision a use for it so I passed.

The first time I saw a 9410 was also my first 'WTF?' moment regarding a production firearm. The dealer assured me it would sell like hotcakes and once people had shot one, 'everybody' would want it.

I protected myself from the zombie curse by not shooting one. Don't know how the rest of you got through this ;)

They shoot ok. It has a weird feeling in the way it levers(at least the one I WAS SHOOTING DID) but it was pretty accurate and a hoot. My buddy who owns it and I were shooting from a mobile trap and I had a blackpowder SXS and Timmy had this 9410 and was whacking everything in sight. We were at a public range and a Dad was walking past with a 10ish year old and told the boy " that fella right there is a H&%$ of a shot he's shooting skeet with a rifle". I laughed and laughed. Pretty cool idea but I had no idea they had gone up that much. 2 1/2 inch shells only IIRC.I think Marlin makes one also. Tom

I procrastinated and waited one week too long. A local shop had a new one--the "regular" long mag tube model which I liked, like a long carbine--for $450. A week later the New Haven plant closed and the price shot up to $650 and stayed there (and worse) and hasn't really come down a whole lot since. A friend has an earlier model that I almost bought from, but just couldn't abide the cross bolt. But, he's said the same thing -- a hoot to shoot.

I almost bought one when I was looking at buying my first gun. I was thinking "one gun for everything" and wanted a levergun. I figured I could shoot slugs for defense and shot for birds.

But I decided I wanted rifled-barrel accuracy and got a .357 Marlin. Glad I never got the .410 because as it turns out I do a lot more shooting than I anticipated and have never taken to shotguns.

I have one, and had a big fight with our firearms registry convincing them it was a shotgun and not a rifle.

I had one for a year or so. Only sold it because I needed the cash. It was a blast and murder on the red squirrels
around my cabin in PA.
Really wish I still had it.

It is a great fun gun that has real possibilities with slugs.

Another example of a great answer to a question no one ever asked, but then I've never shot one either.

I understand you Rusty but I do see the potential for such a gun. A "smoothrifle" has many uses.

I allways remember when much younger I owned a converted 303brit Lee Enfield to .410 and the shot and slug made it very versatile. It was very good past 50yds with my home made slugs too.
