Picked up a new Lever Gun today!!!

Post by Rube Burrows »

Well today felt like Christmas because last week my GF ordered me a Winchester 1887 copy and it arrived today. She wont let me have it just yet since I wont give her her Xmas presents early. lol.

I also found a super deal on a Coach Gun that has been worked over and is race ready for Cowboy shooting.

Here are a couple of pics of today's catch.

I must say though....I like the 87 so much that I will now be looking for an original.

Thanks, I have always wanted an 87 Winchester. Just never came across the right deal. When I seen this one at the such a good price I went ahead and picked it up. Figured it I liked it I may look for an original at some point. The gun is pretty nice. I have less than 550 total in both guns.

Good for you. Always wanted to shoot an '87. Saw a SASS shooter shooting one at a match and boy he could smoke that wagon. He'd load two at a time and was amazingly fast.

I know some of them come with the two load system. This one didnt. I will prob. get it sent off and have it added along with action job. Not sure yet. I have seen some guys shoot SASS pretty darn fast with them also.

Clearly you didn't get the Leverguns memo that all new shotguns have to be passed around the fire, starting with me.....

I have one and it's a blast to shoot :D . I've found that you need to throw the HARD for positive ejection. Perhaps this will loosen up with more shooting :D

Those are very nice shotguns. I always wanted, still do, an '87. BTW you're GF's a keeper too.

I just ordered one of these. Based on the old IAC web site, I thought all of these had the two load system.

Also, it looks like these are really 12 ga Model 1901s, not 1887s--which is a good thing.

Even though the 87 is not directly linked on the current IAC website, the 87 page is still there. It looks like they no longer say it has the two load system.

You will fall in love with your '87. I've had mine for 2 years and it is my favorite shotgun.

Well took her out and shot her this weekend. I love it. It def needs some breaking in or an action job. You have to throw the lever pretty hard. I bought a 100 round box of the Winchester with the low "Alum"? rim. This ammo would get stuck due to swelling in the chamber. Other ammo functions just fine and does not get stuck.

As for this one having the two load system.......if it does im not sure how to use it. Never owned one till this so im not for sure.....honestly. I dont think it does but maybe im not working it right.

Overall I love this gun and it functioned great with the good ammo. The good ammo didnt hang up a single time upon ejection. The low alum shells were the only ones to get stuck. When they would swell I would have to take a cleaning rod and push it down the barrel to get it unstuck. At first I thought it was my gun and I was very disappointed. Glad I had some of the other ammo around to try out and know it was not my new gun.

This gun is fun to shoot and just cool to look at. Everyone that was there with me today really liked the gun......and wants one

I cant wait to let someone work over this gun and see its full potential.
