It's sort of a lever question

I have a Winchester 1885 in .223. It has no iron sights. I would like to have iron sights put on if it is possible. Would this be feasible and if so who would you reccomend to do the work? I would like to have it this way and use it for my woods loafing rifle. Just don't want to scope it unless that is my only choice. Thanks for the info.

What kind of sights are on it now? Are there dovetail cuts for the sights?

There are no sights on the octagon bbl. It is just D&T'd for a scope.

Here is my suggestion:

Dovetail the barrel at the muzzle and towards the rear for normal 3/8" dovetailed sights.

Put a post or one of the Lyman type target front sights on it.
Put a folding rear sight on it for the shorter ranges.
Put a tang sight on it for longer ranges.

Make sure that when you remove the scope mounts you put screw blanks to fill the holes.
