OT How do I find my Garand's service history?

Post by pharmseller »

I'd like to find some history on my Garand.
Where do I look to find out?

Some details:
Springfield Armory
SN: 26124XX
Bolt inscription: 6528287-SA
A-10
Barrel inscribed:
BLUE SKY/ARLINGTON VA

Thanks,

P

Except in rare cases, those records were not preserved, according to all I've heard.

From Springfield Armory:

"Nor do we have records of where any Springfield Armory weapons were issued and to whom."

The serial can provide approximate manufacturing date for the RECEIVER. http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=18167 Most of these guns have been rebuilt at least once. Those that don't appear to be, because the drawing numbers on all the parts are correct for the gun (unlikely on a rebuilt/arsenal reworked gun), are likely the result of a hobbyist's rebuild of the gun with attention to the "correct" parts as it was originally assembled but those aren't serialed to the gun.

Hobie
