Marlin 1894 .45 Colt Question....
Hello everyone!
This is a nice forum.. Thanks for allowing me to be here!
I have a question... Does anyone know if the Double Tap .45 Long Colt +P 335 & 360 grain loads will cycle in a Marlin 1894?
Also... Will the Buffalo Bore .45 Long Colt +P 300 & 325 grain loads cycle in the same gun?
Thanks for your help!

Re: Marlin 1894 .45 Colt Question....
t-k-c,
Welcome to the forum.
I can't honestly say for positive that all of them will as I do not know the OAL of those cartridges. I do know that my 2005 vintage 1894 Cowboy will reliably function with cartridges as long a 1.675".
So as long at they don't exceed the normal 1.600" SAAMI max length by too much they should feed OK in the 1894s.

The 300 and the 325 will probably cycle and maybe even the 335 but the 360 may be just too long. Most any 1894 marlin will run on ammo that is around 1.75 OAL if the bullet profile is relatively smooth. In other words without driving bands or wad cutter rings.
That said, with the issue of parts stackup no two guns are the same so don't take that as a one size fits all.
I would add some mods to the carrier and chamber mouth can improve feeding.

Re: Marlin 1894 .45 Colt Question....
Thanks everyone for the welcome & info.
The Buffalo Bore 325 grain load is 1.6875 so it sounds like that one will probably work. I don't know what the measurement is for the Double Tap 335 grain load. Does anyone have one that could be measured?
I am getting set up for a bear hunt in Canada & have a Marlin 1984 .45 Colt on hold at Cabelas. The 325 & 335 grain loads seem to be just the ticket but I want to make sure that they will work ok in the gun before I fully commit on it.

Re: Marlin 1894 .45 Colt Question....
If U R going to hunt Bear U had better make very well sure they will cycle. Last thing U want is a Gun that is jammed and He Aint Dead.

I will be well prepared.
Re: Marlin 1894 .45 Colt Question....
Welcome. I have used a number of LBT and KT style bullets in the Marlin .45 Colt without issue as long as the OAL was correct. I have used Buff. Bores offering. They fed just fine in my rifles. I have not used the D.T. offering. I checked their web pag. They claim the 335gr load is safe in the Marlin so I ASSUME they will function just fine. Just an assumption! Call D.T. and get their imput. Best wishes and good luck with your hunt. 1886.

Re: Marlin 1894 .45 Colt Question....
As Nate notes, no two Marlins are exactly the same. No matter what they SAY, yer gonna have to PUT THE SAFETY ON and try cycling em. Now, as a fall back position, you can always load one of them in the chamber, and back it up with rounds KNOWN to cycle properly...... If ya meet Mr Bear, at least ya get that one "uber load" in him before ya crank in the next round......

Yes... That is plan B or C. If I have difficulty with a cartridge that I want to use, I may have Steve do some modifications.adirondakjack wrote:As Nate notes, no two Marlins are exactly the same.
