Price Check, Model 94 BB/ .375 Win. (bought it!)

Post by 2ndovc »

Local pusher has a Model 94 BB in 375 Winchester in super condition
tagged at 499.00.
A quick search of gunbroker is telling me it's a steal but there's no bids on those auctions.

My thinking is that its a deal but wanted a second opinion.

That would be a great deal here in Oregon. The last one I saw here that was reasonable was $650.

I paid $475 for mine seven years ago, so I'd say you got a pretty good deal on your hands.

I had a chance at a NIB 375BB in 2007 for $275, but I passed and let my friend Chris buy it. He has never shot it because he doesnt have the interest nor the place to hunt with it legally. I offered to buy it back - he got smart. He wants $750 for it. I should've grabbed it when I could have.

you'll like this rifle, I have one I've had since 1981. It will blow a train tunnel through stuff, I can't believe it did not become more popular. Recoil is stiff, but I like that. Stars and Stripes has a 250gr load for it and Reed's had 200 and 220s for it. If you reload than that isnt an issue, you can trim 38-55 cases to OAL for it but I prefer .375 cases for head strength. Factory stuff shoots the 250 at about 1900-2000fps, and ths 200s close to 2200fps. You got a great deal.

Didn't make it to out Gander Mtn. yesterday and was up all night thinking about it. Was planning on going at lunch time today but useless meetings ran late. Didn't get there until after 5pm.
That little beauty was still there waiting for me. :D

I had to put it in lay-in-wait for a couple weeks. I've got a nice bonus check coming but it hasn't shown up yet.

I'll get some photos up as soon as possible. The bugger looks like new!!

On the "Really Wierd" side.. :o

The New Gal managing the store is an old girlfriend that just started working there.
Talk about UNCOMFORTALBE!!!!!
Yikes!!
I didn't recognize her until she said to the sales guy " I'm waiting for him to recognize me".
I had to look at her name tag to make the connection. :o

That store had been a gold mine for me. Now I'm going to be wierded out going in there!!

UGH!

I'll post photos as soon as I spring the girl.
In the mean time I'll be scrounging .375 Stuff. :D

Probably. But she looks WAAAAYYYY different than she did 25 years ago!
Didn't help either when I started subconsciously playing with my wedding band.

I told the Boss Lady about it when I got home and she thought I was being silly thinking it was wierd.

That's a good price. I was happy to pay 550.00 for mine two years ago. I actually even found a box of factory ammo for mine once. If you reload, there's lots of choices out there. Hornady even makes a jacketed bullet specifically for it. It's a 220gr fp interlock and 38 grains of RL7 will push it about 2200fps. It's a bit of a snotslinger but I know of quite a few people that load their's down to 38-55 velocities.

That's funny.

Pete,
That's a nice looking bullet. I'll put that mold on my list.

One of the things I love a new "to me" round. Researching it and putting together all the stuff to make it shoot.

thats the exact sight I have had on mine for 29 years TxPete! I have loaded 270s for my .375 but I love the look of those 280s. What is your load for those? I have never recovered bullets from mine as well, even with factory Winchester 200s on muleys, large pigs, goats, coyotes, and whatever else. Like I said, blows a train tunnel, big and all the way through.

Only i've found one under $600 in the last week or so that I've been researching and it was badly rusted.

I'd be interested to know how many were made. The one I have waiting is in the 25K serial number range.

rob I have used imr 4227,2400 and going to try some AA5744 next.in my rifle I have that it has a sweet spot at 1500 to 1600 fps.you can push it faster but there isn't any need for me as I used to hunt the brushy areas and a long shot was 70 yards.
fwiw I paid 400.00 for mine NIB out the door.that was some money for a SSG back then.

I found mine about ten years ago and told my foreman about it as he was looking for one. After buying it, he had second thoughts, so I told him that if he ever wanted to sell... About a year later he sold it to me for what he had in it. $280.00!!!

thanks for the load txpete. I have loaded 270s with the data fro the speer number 10 manuel in the '80s, and Hawk 270s recently. They were great and I bet the 280s are better.
I believe my rifle was 399.00 or 419.00 nib in 1981. It was a present for my 12th birthday and took a muley about 4 days later, one shot instant drop. It has seen a LOT of use since then and is NOT pristine, and hopefully I pass it to my children and then grandchildren and so on. I would only sell it in extreme need, like life and death, but even with the wear and use it would be at least 600.00 or more.
Yes it was a lot of gun for a 12 year old. Yes it kicked me. And, I loved it even more when it did.

Geez. I remember watching one sit on a local shelf for maybe a year back in the early 980's. Didn't buy it. I'm still kicking myself for that.

Pics are always great to see, and congrats too!

We should not have disdained the gunwriters who poo pooed the Big Bore 94 back in the early 80's. Instead we should have quietly bought up all those "useless" rifles when the buying was good! I paid around 325.00 for my 356 Win. back in 1992 if I recall correctly, brand spanking new. Love my Big Bore.

the front sight is stock on my winchester.the orginal rear sight didn't work with the factory 250 gr load IIRC the load shot very high.I had williams sights on my other lever actions so ordered one when I got back from shooting that day.
over the years I have been stashing brass.every gun show I go to if I see some 375 win brass at a fair price I buy it.it is a odd ball and someday brass might be hard to find.I think T/C is the only company now chambering for the 375 win and one day I plan of picking up a 375 win encore barrel.

The 94 BB .375 top eject is a really fine and well worked rifle. I had one, but recently sold it, as I found it too tiny - too short LOP and too short-barreled. It found a new home, and the new owner seems to be quite enthusiastic.

Jason, I run a stock front sight on mine as well with the same sight that txpete has, I've thought about a blade, but the stock works fine. I just took off my front hood. I need to post a pic of mine also. txpete's looks like mine when it was a year old. Mine is "seasoned" but is still beautifull.

Mine is a top eject, ser#BB0154XX (age?). I also have a Williams receiver sight on mine, never had a problem with the stock front sight. What is the problem that many seem to have with the front sight hood? I prefer it and keep them on all of my rifles that came with them.

The stock front sight is OK with an aperture sight, but it's not as precise as a blade.

As for the hood, I pull them off because I think it clutters up the sight picture. I don't think the front sight needs that kind of "protection" anyway.

I like to try and shoot small groups and with a factory bead front on the Winchester, I just cannot do it. I cut the bead off my 94 Win. with a hacksaw and it worked pretty well for a number of years , but the new AO front sight on it now is much better. On my Marlin 39A I just filed the sides of the bead off with a flat file, and filed the top flat...turned it into a blade sight. Much easier to shoot with for me, than the bead front.
