Last weekend I fired some 44 Special ammo either I or a custom loading company
loaded, W-W cases, CCI-350 primers, Sierra 220gr FPJ and 7.5gr Unique. This ammo
was loaded in the late 80s early 90s. Never had a problem with any of these before
and thought this was interesting. Vertically split down to the web, nothing unusual
noticed in firing. 3 out of six in one cylinder, stopped when I noticed.
Split Cases, what do you think?

Re: Split Cases, what do you think?
This ought to be an interesting thread.
I've had some Remington factory .357's do that (about 20 out of a box of 50 I think), and some Winchester factory .44 Mags to that (only about 5 out of a box of 50).
They did it regardless (as far as I could tell) of which gun they were fired in.

Defective brass.
Nothing to worry about, just clean it good and go shooting some more.

I've had it happen with .45 Colt, .357 Mag, and 38 spcl. Usually on the first firing. Sometimes though it happens on old brass. Nothing to worry about, just clean it good and go shooting some more.

Yep, Brass is too hard, fails to expand and bounce back upon firing. Something went awry in the annealing at the factory.
