Super Vel ammo---------------OT

Post by fm94 »

I have been interested of late in Super Vel ammo. I killed my first
deer with a handgun using the stuff. 180 gr 44mag jhp. Nice fat doe
of app 110lbs. Shot her thru both shoulders at app 50yds. What a
mess. This was app 1981. Had a rich dr who owned the first chrony
I ever saw run some of this stuff thru his screens. Only sacrificed
3crds. Avg1803 fps. M29 S&W 8 3/8 barrel. I never could get close
to those speeds handloading. I used a max load of 32gr ww 296 and
180gr sierra in same pistol. Best I could get was almost 1700. Kicked
more than the Super Vel too. Anybody know what load ole Lee used
for the factory Stuff. My load came from Sierra Mnl #2. My next fav
fact load was ww fact 240gr swc. It would clock over 1500. It too is
no longer made. Now I shoot ww usa 240gr jsp. The box says 1180.
Thats fast enough for me. Good load Fair price and it will still kill a deer,

Lee shouldn't be too hard to track down. IIRC he used to post here, then I think he put his own forum together. If you can't Google and find him Terry M. might know hot to contact him.

I would bet that Lee knows.
Why don't you ask him?

I don't believe Mr. Jurras is registered on this version of the Leverguns forum.

Lee Jurras used to post on the old Sixgunner.com site. His handle was curmudgeon, I believe. That site's been replaced by Single-Actions.com, IIRC. jd45

Talk about a blast from the past!
Last time I saw him, was at a match ( handgun silhouette ) over in Jal, New Mexico.
But that was many, many years ago.

Mr. Jurras still post over on the WWW.singleactions.com forum from time to time. I meet him about a month and a half ago. He offered to sell me some speed loaders and stuff for a S&W 25-5 that I had bought. When he found I lived along the route he was using to go to NM he offered to meet me in person and drop them off. :D We only had a few minutes to talk as he had places to be that night. But I got to meet him and his lovely wife. Something I will not soon forget.
