OT: Silly new toy

Post by olyinaz »

Centerfire Systems has these Suomi M31s on sale for $399 and, well it's pretty silly but I wanted one so the UPS man came today to my local FFL guy!

And wouldn't you know I'm off on a trip tomorrow so I don't even get to take it out to play until late next week if I'm lucky! Oh the unfairness! :D

Thank goodness Wally World still carries 9mm for pretty cheap ($9.49 for Federal ball at mine) because I'm pretty sure this thing is going to eat through it like my boys at a smörgåsbord!

Cheers,

Yes it is.

I saw a semi-automatic version in... drumroll please... .22 LR! Now that would be a lot of fun and cheap to shoot.

Only problem is the initial investment... something in the vacinity of $800!!!

Bite your tongue! :D No sir, it is a 9mmP semi-auto version of the Finnish Suomi KP/-31 (Tikka), upon which the Russians based their PPSh-41, thereby proving that imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery.

The Fins used the Suomi to great effect during the Winter War and by the time of the Continuation War the Soviets had caught on.

I certainly hope so!

Yes, those are pretty darn cool as well but they're simply .22s made to look like a PPSh - no actual relation to a real PPSh. They run about $550 in Tucson and that's still just way too pricey in my opinion.

The Calico's are kind of fun, too, although definitely not as 'classic' looking - they are currently available in .22 LR & 9mm, and I think 40 S&W available too, but for LEO only.

Here's some pics off their website.
My semiauto 9mm 'pistol' is like the one shown, but I have a 100-round magazine    that works on it as well. MAJOR ammo-consumer, but kinda cool.
The .22 LR version probably nearly as fun and more affordable.

I don't think ANY full-auto ones got produced before 1986, so those are LEO-purchase only. :(

Check out their website - http://calicolightweaponsystems.com/hom ... ?page=Home

Actually, the Suomi inspired the PPD series (several) all of which were too expensive to make in numbers, which led to the Shpagin (PPSh) which was extremely simple to build.
