lubing a win 94

Post by sven556 »

I have my new rifle completely apart for inspection and cleaning. What parts should be lubed? and do you recommend oil or grease? I'm thinking grease would work better on the bolt rails and locking block and oil for the other contact points.

I use a light application of a heavy grease on pivot points, and VERY light oiling of contact points such as the slots for both bolt and locking lug. However, I wipe off any excess. I don't wan ANY EXCESS anywhere. Oil absords any powder residue and aids gumming stuff up. Oh, yea, IMNSHO!

I'm with Griff, for the grease I use a product called Molly Slide and also put a dab on the full cock notch of the hammer/sear. It so slippery it's like a trigger job in a tube  CLP is the oil of my choice.

The entire gun gets cleaned with Ed's Red and if there's a shiny wear spot, it gets wiped with a towel dampened with Bread Free.

I use nothing that dirt or dust can stick to. If you can leave a smear mark with a finger, you've used too much oil.

IMHO.
Kind regards,
