One more Levergun Boar hunt Post!
Pulled in to Avery, TX after about 1100 miles.
I'd missed the post about the little sign that marked the entrance to the ranch.
I pulled in anyway and after clearing the trees and had thoughts of "Deliverance"!
Got RKrodle on the shoe phone and was told I had the right place.
Some more of the Boys started showing up shortly thereafter.
I pulled the Durango up to "Isle De Shack" and started digging out my stuff.
That evening we went out to the blinds.
About ten minutes after getting to my my spot the hogs started showing up.
Two good size boar came out of the brush and I set my sights on the larger of the two.
I squeezed the tigger and the 1886 roared. The pig spun and ran back the way he came.
I worked another .33WCF into the chamber and burst out of my blind only to be sucked up
by the Texas mud!
I got to the spot where I shot the boar and found a blood trail Ray Charles could follow.
There he was 30 feet into the brush dead on his side.
Got a few photos of the only sun I saw.
That First boar weighed in at 150#.
Brian our guide had him hung up, skinned and quartered in a matter of minutes!!
After a great dinner of Ricky's stew, BiranSH's chicken and Piller's cookies, corn bread and
other stuff I passed out on the skanky old couch in the cabin. (With a little help from the Maker's Mark I'd brought along )
Sat Am came early since i was still on OH time.
We went out again @6:45. I took My 1895 / .35WCF out and planted myself in the same spot.
Again it was about ten minutes later a herd of about thirty hogs burst onto the sceen.
I picked a blondish one that I thought was about 100 lbs and squeeed the trigger of Granpa's
old /95. CLICK!
Everything scattered! "Son of a _____" I opened the action.
I'd hadn't chambered a round after getting into the blind!!!
I closed the lever and took a bead on the now running blonde sow and jerked the trigger.
She stopped for a second and then shot off like a bolt of lightning.
I got to the spot where I thought ther should be blood and all I found was wood chips.
I'd killed a tree!!
Went back to my blind and said a few nasty words. Figured the day was done.
I heard some shooting and was feeling good that the other boys were doing well when I felt something behind me.
I turned and saw what I thought was a smallish sow working her way towards me.
I took a bead on her shoulder and pulled the trigger.
Boom! The .35 WCF lifter her up about a foot and she bolted!
We had been told not to wander too far from out blinds so I followed the tracks about 50 yds and stopped.
Joe and Brian showed up about 30 min later.
We tracked her off to where I thought she should be ahd there was this Huge sow where my little pig
was supposed to be.
She weighed in a 185 Lbs!!! Sure didn't look that big!
The 225 Gr Sierra JSP smashed the left leg, went through her chest, missing the heart by less than an inch and smashed out
through the right front leg. Amazing how she ran 100 yds with all that damage!
That was it for me.
Here's a photo from my blind. Lots of little pigies to choose from.
Got a good photo of Lindsey skinning her Ram and Joe in action!
Vance's Ram
Isle De Shack!
And one for YK;
Nothing but muck!
I had a great time! Can't wait for next year!

Great pictures and a great time! I think Huntress may be the last to post up her pics, but CRS and Colin didn't put any up either. The more the merrier, it brings back that mud smell ever time I view them!

Excellent post Jason, Congrats!!! Glad you had safe travel too. In two weeks I'm heading to Hondo to go test my double rifle against a water buff. I'll be matching the driving there, 1800 + miles each way.

Good luck Mike!!
I hope you have a good drive. I managed to squeak in between two nasty weather fronts!
It's been snowing here again since ten am.
Was three degrees Mon. morn. when I took the little piggies to the butcher.

More like 1693. Take US30 over to I-81, S to I-40, W to I-30, W to I-35, S to Loop 410, W around San Antonio to US90. About 26 hours driving time. Be safe and good luck.rjohns94 wrote:Excellent post Jason, Congrats!!! Glad you had safe travel too. In two weeks I'm heading to Hondo to go test my double rifle against a water buff. Re: One more Levergun Boar hunt Post!
Hey Jason, great pics.
I can't believe none of us, including me, took pics on Friday when the water was 10 feet higher! (okay, maybe 4 inches higher...)
We've had more more loverly rain since you left. I came home and had to cross pickup door high water last night. When I went to work this morning, all four tires were frozen to the driveway

Great post Jason! And I'd have to say that none of the carbines and rifles had any trouble with the hogs

It was a lot of fun. I will say that I don't like mud nearly as much as I did a week ago.

It would be great as long as it's not as wet as it was this year. Even with a 4x4 it would be tough tomescalero1 wrote:I was thinking of pulling a travel trailer behind the truck, is that do-able?
get a trailer in there with the mud.
The area around the cabin is pretty solid but the road in @ 3-400 yds was mush.
