morning

Yesterday morning,
drinking my tea, watching a big ol coyote wandering around out back.
This retirement thing is a good gig.

Got another 20 years... maybe 30 given what happened to my 401K and home value over the last several years... probably 40 if B-HO's policies all get implemented!

Yeah mescalero1, retirement is a good gig. However, what you do in retirement can be good or bad depending on what one does with his retirement hours. On a day like today, think I may have made a mistake with my choices. Love my life, but the work I've piled on myself, not so much today! Temp - 35.8 degrees, 81% humidity, overcast, misty and expecting rain later this a.m. and still have snow on the ground. Pastures are sodden and the livestock loafing areas are boggy and muddy. ... NASTY!

Got some hay yesterday afternoon and have to put it in the barn before rain really starts. Need to grain the stock, drain and roll the water hoses to keep them from freezing up tonite. Have a Anatolian Shepherd livestock guardian dog who had a litter of 14 pups on New Year's Day. Vet tells me I'm 2 weeks behind in starting a worming program for the pups. Need to get some wormer today and begin that new chore. Saw a big redtail hawk on a fence post early this a.m. and am concerned that it may decide the pups will fit in its' lunchbucket, ...one per day! Pretty expensive menu for that blankety-blank bird. And to top it all off, our CPA is on my case to get all my 2009 farm receipts logged and sent to him so we can send off our contribution to the next stimulus package from our esteemed leaders in Washington. Maybe I should blow off all the work and take Buzz squirrel hunting again.

Anyhow, I'm piddling around here instead of getting to my chores. Guess I better get with it before I talk myself into selling the farm and buying a condo in town. Yeah, sure!!

Yep, retirement can be good. I been retired for about 6 months and some days I get really bored. We just moved and haven't set up my cave yet (of the last 30 days it's rained 27!) so it just feels like we're on vacation...

mescalero1,

Enjoy every minute of your hard earned (I'm sure) retirement, and count your blessing each and every day.

I'm in my mid 50's and do not believe that I will ever be able to retire (or else there will be nothing left to retire to), given the current state of affairs in this country.

Yes. It is!

Was up at 5 a.m., drove to my buddies house and we got our weightlifting session in by 7:15 so he could shower and head to work by 8 (he's a teacher) and when I got home had a big ol' elk steak, 2 pancakes, hashbrowns and 4 scrambled eggs along with a pot of coffee for breakfast while I catch up on the computer and now I'm heading out to cut more firewood and clean out the henhouse

glad your enjoying retirement. I saw a coyote yesterday in York County Pa. The first I have seen. He was a might far off and I saw him from the road I was driving on. No rights to hunt on the property. Have'nt seen a coyote since I hunted them in the canyons around the coastal mountains of Ca. with a longbow, a spell back.

I enjoy mornings where I am, but will likely be working til I drop dead.

This web cam is a nice thing to look at in the morning, at least when it's clear, (it's cloudy now, I just went and looked at the site).

http://www.cookecity.com/WebCamEast.htm

It say's "east", but it looks west. It's a nice view in the morning with the sun on it. The mountains in the far distance (that you can't see right now for the clouds) are about the edge of Yellowstone Park.

Mailed my retirement papers yesterday (Thursday) effective March 1 . Almost 32 years should be enough.

Hey mescalero 'ol pal, I retired 07-2001 I have not missed going to work. I like to get up early, put on a pot of coffee and get some bible reading done before my wife gets up and grandson Jerry3 heads off to his college classes.I usally put out the feed for the birds and some deer corn while the coffee is working.
I know the old people are proud to have you home.
