Have the mid-winter blues? We need fresh Levergun Porn!
It's the doldrums of mid January again. For most of us that means hunting seasons are closed and the snow is too deep, or at least the weather is too cold, to walk in the woods or go to the range. Yes, it's time for a mid winter pick-me-up and that means only one thing...Levergun Porn! Whether it's a new photo or one you've posted before...remember, a lot of us are old geezers who can hardly remember yesterday!...drum roll...strut your stuff!
Here are my two Browning 1886's in 45-70. The carbine will clover leaf at 50 yards and is one of my half dozen favorite lever guns! Alas, my jealous mistress (my boat) tells me I'm going to be selling the 1886 Montana Centennial rifle. Too bad because I looked a long time for it. She said, "Too bad!" right back to me!!! Truth be told, though, I've never fired it, and with that 26" octagon barrel it probably would be more at home with sightings of buffalo on the horizon and wide open spaces to roam than pushing through the Maine woods. Yes, I might have been a buffalo hunter back in the good ol' days! But as I said in another post, shooting Prairie Dogs is what is at the top of my wild west adventure bucket list now. That...and putting gas in my boat's fuel tanks here at home!
So here are my Browning 1886s. I hope they pick up your January day!
OK, I've shown you mine...now show me yours!!!

Victor and Mcnutjob--I'm impressed with those babies. I only have regular huntin' leverguns. Well, its the time of the year for "show 'n tell"
'86 src made in 1901 with special order shotgun butt
A couple of '95's all made in the 1902-1910 period--35 WCF--'06 and a 30-40
It ain't a levergun, but its a Winchester! (belongs to my buddy Tom
3 digit deluxe 71 made in '36
Same gun as above
I'm gettin' bored with leverguns--here's my bear trap thats been hanging around my gunroom.

Wow, I love that 1895 group. I love all of those vintage IMR cans and all of that old ammo. That's just cool as all get out.

Re: Have the mid-winter blues? We need fresh Levergun Porn!
I actually owned a Winchester levergun, for about a month.
Deluxe 1894, 32 WS, dated to 1907. The Cody letter recorded 3 trips back to the factory, in the first 12 months after it left. It had the Lyman sight put on and a complete reconfiguration including buttplate and upgraded wood. I sold it to fund 3 rimfires.

Re: Have the mid-winter blues? We need fresh Levergun Porn!
It's a Stevens 44-1/2 built by Paul Shuttleworth. I did the final fit & finish, on the wood. The receiver case coloring is the correct Stevens Cyanide Dip. Heat the metal up and dip it, to get the tiger stripe effect. I'm restoring a plain old Stevens 44 and should have everything done, in about 2-3 weeks.Rimfire McNutjob wrote:I vaguely recall seeing that one before. Ok, now, help me out here. That's a Marbles Special Base tang sight on there. However, I don't see a version listed in Stroebel's book for the Marlin 1892/1897.
