Interesting Read on Gun Oils

Post by Shasta »

I'm sure the value of this report will vary with one's particular experiences, but I found it such an interesting read that i am compelled to post a link for my fellow levergunners;
after clicking on the link, go to "lube references", then go to "gun oil tests"

He's got some good Lyman 310 data there, too!
Sincerely,

The "cartridge conversions" is a very useful list too.

Stability is another VERY important factor, not discussed.
How quickly -- and how -- do the various oils oxidize, break down or otherwise quit being a 'fix' and become part of (or most of..) the problem...?

...".32-20 or .30 Carbine...?" - surely they don't use the same dies for the 310 tool...? Do they?

Its on the page with the California Condor recipes, just below the "make your own pistol grips from elephant tusks" instructions.

I'm a RIG oil user but I don't remember why. Apparently, after reading the evaluation, I don't have to worry about "why".

For Auto Slide Lubeing I like RIG 7, but it´s hard to get.

For Triggers FP 10.

For RUST protection Break Free CLP is in a class of it´s own, often topping RIG Grease!!

If in doubt, it´s Break Free!

Welllll.......On military M-16s, Break Free CLP would stiffen up in the cold. We would (against orders) carry a small WD40 to spritz the action and all would be well. Ever try Fluid Film??
