POLITICS - Thompson
Can Thompson pull it off? He looked good tonight. So far I agree with his stance. I'm sure he would agree with dropping 40 thousand # of bombs in 10 minutes in Iraq.
Mccain has been to Maine Spain and spokane and has flip flopped on immigration, but I still have more respect for him than Romney and Giuliani. http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Fred_Thompson.htm
GO FRED...!!!
I lived in Tennessee when Fred made his first run for the Senate. I worked for his election then, and am proud to do so now. I had the pleasure of shooting Trap with Fred once, and in that informal setting, found him to be the kind of clear thinking, STRAIGHT TALKING guy I'd like to have in Washington. It's funny...people have criticized him for not showing "fire" in his campaign. When I look at the candidates that DO show this "fire" I see people who will say or do ANYTHING to get my vote. That's NOT Fred, and I like it that way. .
I was really up on Fred years ago when he was a Senator. In fact I told my wife I'd move to Tn just so I could vote for him. That said, right now I'm not sure what he's doing. It just seems like he doesn't really want to win and he's just in it cause he's bored. I really do think he'd be my first choice though.

I didn't have an opportunity to watch the debate; stuck in O'Hare with a delayed flight coming home.
Of all the candidates on both sides, Fred "needs" and "wants" the Presidency the least. Instead, it is almost as if he's being drafted - which is pretty close to the truth. He is more than willing to serve - to help the country.
Isn't this what we want in a man that will become the most powerful person in the world?
I'm looking forward to casting my vote for Fred next Saturday!

If anyone cares to read, maybe you allready knew this: http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=3317935 I'm in a bit of conundrum with the lobbying thing, I understand "that's the way it works in Washington" but ethically I can't agree with the lobbying thing. With the lobbying mentality, we are unequal because we all don't have matched funds with which to work. Now where did I put my (tri-corner) tinfoil hat?

... He is in his own words "against gun control, generally."2 And his voting record shows that to be true, generally. When he voted anti-gun, it was usually to expand federal authority. This is unfortunately consistent with his being a "law and order" conservative (pardon the pun). A complete report on each individual vote is appended below.
Gun owners should also be aware that Thompson unabashedly favors the odious McCain-Feingold Incumbent Protection Act. This legislation, characterized by its proponents as campaign finance reform, severely limits the abilities of groups like GOA to inform the public about the gun rights voting records of politicians already in office. In many cases, it becomes illegal to even mention a politician's name in on-air advertising the month before an election. Thompson -- having voted in favor of the restrictions several times -- thinks doing so is "not a non-conservative position, although I agree that a lot of people have interpreted it that way."...
In total, GOA tracked 33 votes in the U.S. Senate while Thompson was there. He voted pro-gun 20 times.

IOW... 2/3 pro gun.
100% anti 1st Amendment
33% anti 2nd Amendment
I'm not sure how that is better than Ron.
