Load request 50-90 Sharps

Post by shawn_c992001 »

I have a Remington rolling block in 50-90 made in 1874 with a 26" barrel, I'm pretty sure it started life as a 50-70 and at some point was rechambered. Does any one have any load data for this?

Somewhere between 100 and 126 grs of 1f bp with a 500-700 gr bullet and a .030 fiber wad is what seems to be used quite a bit by folks that shoot the big 50.
Running smokeless in that old gun in the monstrous case probably not a real good idea.
So filling the case to the base of the bullet with either 2f or 1f bp or (choke) one of the so called bp substitutes will keep you and the gun running for a very long time.

As much 2F black powder as you can get under a Lyman 440grain bullet is a good start. A card wad will help protect the bullet base from gas cutting. If you are tempted to try smokeless Accurate Arms have load data for the 50-90 here:
