Model 88 ... where will it end?

Post by Rimfire McNutjob »

I'd love to have one, but I thought $3500 was a lot for a 358. My problem is that I'd have to shoot it once I had it in my hands. Some collector is going to stuff this poor thing in his safe.

Thankfully, it does nothing for me. :D

AMEN BROTHER TUTT!!!!!

Granted it was a number of years ago, and a .308 Win, IIRC, but the last Model 88 i saw was priced way, under $1,000.00. I believe it was around $600.00.

Seems to me that some one has been hitting the jug while playing on GunBroker.

At that price, you would think at least he could eat the 3% credit card fee!

Not that I am interested in 88's. However, how many would you guess are 50 years old and NIB? If someone's gotta have it, perhaps he will get his price. I am hopeful some of the NIBers I've set back for my 'retirement' will bring such money.

I've been fortunate enough to have kept a few with that very same M.O. :D

They just might. But with the way things are headed, and if you're lucky, it might get you a full tank of gas and weeks worth of groceries.

I know that 88s in 358 are rare, but come on.

The seller is doing what Americans do best........capitalizing :D He is currently "fishing" and like P.T.Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute", so some dude who just hit the lottery who just has to have it will think nothing of forking over the bucks.

You know, don't we all do it with items we can afford? Primers for $40 a thou.-----powder for $30 a lb.-------gas for $4.50 a gallon :D

I used to run across those Model 88's in .358 from time to time. $7-800 :o Could have had the rarest of them all---.284 in carbine form for $1200 about 3 years ago. Oh well, back to work----------Sixgun

Even at $40.00 for primers and $30.00 for powder, reloading is still a very inexpensive hobby, providing you don't shoot 10,000 rounds per month.

I am convinced that many such auctions are exactly that. Priced so high that if it did sell it would provide enough for more guns without the wife's knowledge but also so that if it doesn't sell he can say, "but honey, I tried."

Must be the NIB factor. Around here you couldn't swing a dead cat around a used gun rack without hitting a couple of 88's in 308. And really ... what else are you going to do with a dead cat anyway.
